In a series of Instagram photos shared on July 30, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Teddi Mellencamp showed images featuring skin cancer scars. One of the photos showcased a massive incision on her back, while in another Mellencamp is seen lying face down on an operating table.
She also added a trigger warning in her caption, warning her followers,
"ONLY SWIPE ON THIS PHOTO IF YOU WANT A REALITY CHECK ON HOW IMPORTANT SKIN CHECKS ARE #skincancerawareness #triggerwarning"
Teddi Mellencamp first shared news of her skin cancer journey in March 2022 when she had a mole removed from her back. In an Instagram statement, she urged her followers to get their "yearly skin checks." She also mentioned it was fellow Bravo star Kyle Richards who encouraged Teddi to consult a dermatologist,
"When @kylerichards18 saw my back and it had changed colors again, she immediately took me to the doc who within minutes said it looks like melanoma and did a big removal."
In October, Teddi announced she had been diagnosed with stage II Melanoma. As per Mayo Clinic, Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer that develops in the melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. It can spread to other parts of the body if not detected and treated early.
Teddi Mellencamp announces 16th surgery
In her recent Instagram post featuring surgery scars on July 30, Teddi Mellencamp announced her next surgery is scheduled for August 19. While thanking everyone for the love and support, she said,
"To answer your main question: My next surgery is August 19th. This is #16, I think, and I keep fighting it so I am feeling more positive than a week ago. The surgery is the easy part compared to the ups and downs of not being able to control what's going inside my own body. August 19th will be here in no time."
As per the National Cancer Institute, treatment of Melanoma includes surgery to remove the tumor. A wide local excision is performed to remove the melanoma and some surrounding healthy skin tissue. In some cases, skin grafting, or taking skin from another part of the body to cover the surgical wound may also be required.
The RHOBH star also added while her surgery date nears she will be showing love to her kids, going to her dad's concert with a bunch of friends, attending some "incredible horse shows" and posing with "some amazing women." Teddi Mellencamp shares three children with her husband Edwin Arroyave— Isabella Arroyave, Slate Arroyave, and Cruz Arroyave.
