Love & Marriage: Huntsville season 9 episode 9 was released on December 28. The episode was titled Open House, Closed Mouths, named after the Open House Martell hosted to sell his house. After Tricia revealed to some cast members that Chris Fletcher was the one to set her up with Martell, they confronted him when they gathered at Martell's open house.
The episode also saw Maurice and Martell sitting down for a chat. The former advised his brother to let go of the past, and what he went through with Mel, and start moving forward. He also told him about the time when Mel said she was "disappointed" in him for getting a DUI. He said Mel didn't dream of being in the world of reality TV and told Martell:
"She's famous because of what you've done."
He added that because she was thrown into this new world, she grew defensive of her image. He added that after separating from Martell, she was hurt so she lost her true self and became tactical, trying to find things she could use against others.
Love & Marriage: Huntsville stars Martell and Maurice talk about Mel on season 9 episode 9
When the Love & Marriage: Huntsville Scott brothers sat down, Maurice gave life advice to Martell. He told him that the thing with him and Mel was that they kept going on and off even after the separation. He explained this by saying that they would try to make things right every time they had a fallout, only to have a fallout again.
He then asked his brother to stop getting affected by it, let it go, and move on. He then narrated what went down between him and Mel at Tricia's party. He told him that Mel said she was disappointed in him for getting a DUI and also recalled her telling him about her grandma, who died because of a drunk driver.
Martell laughed. Maurice brought up the fact that if Mel was really concerned about his well-being, she would've directly talked to Maurice and not gone about discussing the topic and assassinating his character with other cast members. He referred to Mel's talks with his wife Kimmi and their sister-in-law LaTisha, where Mel told the latter that she saw a hint of lipstick in Maurice's DUI mugshot.
Maurice further said that they weren't dealing with the same Mel they knew. He said that she had lost her true, "bubbly" self and had become tactical. He explained this by saying that Mel was now looking for things she could use against people, and this was because of the hurt she endured on Love & Marriage: Huntsville. Martell agreed and said:
"She tied me up with that s**t too. That Mel killing me".
He sympathized with the hurt Mel was going through and said that it could get difficult to deal with her sometimes. Maurice then took to a Love & Marriage: Huntsville confessional to say that Mel and Martell had been going through a lot since the last 6 years of their separation.
Other cast members having issues with them just added more notches to their ongoing feud, which created a "hypersensitivity" around them. Because of this, he said, they weren't able to move on from one another.
Love & Marriage: Huntsville season 9 episodes are released at 8 pm ET on Saturdays, on OWN.
