Selling Sunset season 8 premiered with all 11 episodes on Friday, September 6, 2024. The Netflix series, renowned for displaying luxury listings in Los Angeles, also focused on the interpersonal relationships of the agents at The O Group. While some had endearing friendships, most were at odds with each other. Their personal opinions often affected business.
Since the Selling Sunset agents were a part of a competitive market space, they had no room for error. In episode 2, Mary argued with Chelsea regarding her outfit, criticizing her lack of professionalism. While Chelsea felt it was appropriate for an open house, Mary claimed it was too short.
Mary complained to the Oppenheim brothers about Chelsea's dress, stating it could negatively impact their reputation. Selling Sunset season 8 fans took to X to criticize Mary's perspective and remarks. They stood up for Chelsea and supported her dressing style. They wondered why Mary and her allies attacked the cast member. One fan on X commented:
"i cannot believe the girls are getting on chelsea about her outfits??? so bizarre."
Several other fans expressed similar sentiments online.
"The energy towards Chelsea this season is very … hm," another fan commented.
"Chelsea is so clearly wearing a skort, what the f**k is wrong with this b*tches," a netizen tweeted.
Some Selling Sunset fans slammed Mary for her comments.
"The shows just started and Mary is cussing out Chelsea for “caring more about her outfit” as if the other girls also don’t?????? lol I see where this season is going," a person reacted.
"Mary calling Chelsea a pot stirrer when she went to Jason x Brett to complain ab Chelsea's outfit "a lot of people came to me to complain about it" who honey? You and Bre?" another fan commented.
"At this piont the girls are just coming for Chelsea and its annoying," one user tweeted.
"Wtf is Mary’s problem coming for Chelsea like that?!? First the IG thing, now the fashion comment. Girl! You spent how many seasons having no backbone and now yuh have chat???" one person wrote.
At the same time, many fans supported Chelsea when Mary's partner, Romain, defended Mary in their argument about the outfit in episode 3.
"Chelsea had a point, why am I having a conversation / mini argument with you and your husband is trying to chat over me?!" a netizen commented.
"Why does Mary keep using the word “inappropriate” in regards to Chelsea and involve men to fight her battles with Chelsea?" another user tweeted.
"A low blow" — Selling Sunset star Chelsea confronts Mary for complaining about her outfit to the Oppenheim brothers
In episode 2, titled Who Wears the Pants?, Chelsea and Mary argued about the former's outfit choice for an open house event arranged to attract brokers. Chelsea arrived an hour late, wearing an outfit that caught Mary and Bre's attention.
While Chrishell and Emma welcomed the cast member with open arms, complimenting her appearance, Mary and Bre stated their discomfort.
"Chelsea's skirt is really short," Mary said.
The Selling Sunset cast member added she did not want the clients to see her dressed like that. Nicole chimed in and stated that it was "common sense" to wear pants. According to Mary, Chelsea's skirt failed to conceal the "essentials." When newcomer Alanna inquired about the office's dress code, Mary said:
"Clothing would be good. More than just covering up the essentials."
Mary soon mentioned her concern to Jason and Brett, calling Chelsea's demeanor unprofessional. She informed them that her "hoo-ha" was exposed, hoping they would take action against her. Chelsea was surprised when the men asked her to "tone down" her outfit. The Selling Sunset star criticized Mary for confronting her in front of their bosses instead of approaching her privately.
She added she would have agreed to tone down her outfit if it were to benefit the company. However, how Mary handled the situation seemed like a "dig" to her.
"Doing it in front of two men, I just think it's a little bit of a low blow," Chelsea said.
With that, she walked away from the conversation to mingle with the clients.
