"You set yourself up for stardom" — The Voice coach Snoop Dogg applauds Aliyah's performance
Snoop Dogg gave Aliyah Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing, convinced she could tackle a song by such a renowned artist. He wanted the world to see how versatile Aliyah's voice was and how far she could push her limits to deliver a noteworthy performance.
The Voice participant had recently lost her mother and wanted to express her feelings through this melody. Team Snoop's Playoffs advisor, Simone Biles, encouraged Aliyah to take control of the track, reminding her to own "that power" as a Black woman. Aliyah decided to change a few phrases here and there but kept the overall arrangement of the song identical to the original.
As Aliyah increased the song's scale, taking it higher with each verse, the coaches got up from their seats and cheered for her. The Voice contestant received a standing ovation from all four of them at the end.
Coach Michael confessed that Aliyah's performance felt like a tribute to Whitney Houston. He praised her for making the song hers. Reba complimented her tone, while Gwen acknowledged how moved she was by her runs. Moreover, Snoop commented:
"You set yourself up for stardom."
Despite the compliments, with no steals or saves left, Snoop Dogg eliminated Aliyah along with Austyns and Mikaela.
The Voice will return with another episode on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, only on NBC.
