Season 5 of Love After Lockup released episode 52, Indecent Proposal, on Friday, December 20, 2024. The episode introduced a new couple navigating the challenges of their relationship. Jakeema, a mother of twin boys, was dating Donny, an inmate imprisoned for drug trafficking and possession. To be closer to him, she even moved from Texas to Ohio with her children.
Although the children knew about Donny they were unaware of his criminal status. The episode saw Jakeema sit down with her twins and disclose the truth about Donny's whereabouts. They expressed that it saddened them to hear Donny was in prison since they knew what went on behind bars.
While speaking to the cameras, Jakeema acknowledged that relocating to another state with her family to be closer to an incarcerated inmate she met on TikTok was "risky." However, she claimed the decision was "worth it" since Donny was responsible and supported her and the children from jail.
However, the fans of Love After Lockup felt otherwise. They took to X to disapprove of Jakeema's decision to move her children to another state for an inmate. They looked down upon her choice and called her out for not prioritizing her children's lives.
"I’m so tired of these mom’s dragging these kids state to state for an inmate," a fan wrote.
"She bringing them boys to the prison.." another fan commented.
"I spoke way too soon last week. These women with these kids are about to work my nerves," a netizen tweeted.
Many Love After Lockup fans criticized Jakeema for putting her love life before the well-being of her children.
"It's the "reincarnation" of Raneka...uprooting her minor children for some fool in prison...And don't get me started on the wigs..." a user reacted.
"Jakeema Jakeema Jakeema! Whyyyyyy … Whyyyyyyy…. TF would you move yo kids to another state for a man that’s in prison? & he not even they Daddy," a person commented.
"Jakeema pulled an Indie and Raneka, uprooting their lives and children for a man," another fan wrote.
"You're a single mom with twin boys whose dad went to prison before they were born. What are you doing dating another inmate a thousand miles away who may not be getting out until 2027?!" one user posted.
Other Love After Lockup fans expressed a similar sentiment.
"Why you gonna bring them kids to the prison to see that man. Why do these babies already know people and fighting and dying in prison," a person reacted.
"Yet another parent introducing their innocent children to a convict," another netizen commented.
"I definitely pursued her" — Love After Lockup star Donny reflects on his relationship with Jakeema
Jakeema revealed that she came across Donny's page while scrolling on TikTok one day and was intrigued by him. She contacted him through JPay to find out why he was imprisoned. After he replied to her inquiry, she felt unsure about pursuing him. She was certain he might not have much to offer since he was jailed. However, Donny had other plans.
"I definitely pursued her because I'll get on JPay and I just keep seeing her name. Something kept drawing my mind to it. Then I sent her some edible arrangements to let her know I was serious and interested in, you know, getting to really know her," he said.
The Love After Lockup star confessed that he was in love with her and hoped to spend the rest of his life with her.
Meanwhile, Jakeema revealed that she moved to Ohio to be physically close to Donny and visit him more often. Her father and children believed Donny worked in the military and on a boat respectively. In the latest episode, she came clean to her children but kept the reason for his imprisonment from them.
In a confessional, Jakeema revealed that the father of her children went to prison when she was three months pregnant. Although she supported him financially for a while, their relationship eventually fell apart. The Love After Lockup cast member claimed Donny was different since he financed her and her children's lives.
Jakeema hoped she could marry Donny and start a life together.
Love After Lockup season 5 airs every Friday at 8 pm ET exclusively on WeTV.
