Garrett and Taylor formed an instantaneous connection in episode 1. However, they soon hit a rough patch after Taylor refused to give away her identity by disclosing her ethnicity. She confessed she wanted to keep up with the show's purpose and form emotional connections without knowing what the person across from her looked like.

Garrett disapproved of her strategy, calling it "calculated." He assumed she was methodically trying to paint an image of herself while hiding her true identity. He revealed he had only "dated white girls" after gathering that Taylor was a non-white person.

Love is Blind star Garrett wondered if Taylor was hiding something from him

During their second date in Love is Blind episode 1, Garret informed Taylor that marriage was "a big step" for him. Hence, he wanted to know her on a deeper level before taking their relationship to the next level. Garrett asked her to talk about her family.

Taylor said she had "amazing parents." Her father was a "handy" man who built their family home. On the other hand, she joked her mother was "an angel and a gangster all at the same time." Taylor refused to disclose her mother's first name because it gave away her ethnicity, to which Garrett replied:

"The thought hadn't crossed my mind at all in any direction on that, so interesting."

The Love is Blind cast member confessed it was a "new feeling" for him not to know the other person's ethnicity since he had only ever dated "white girls." He added it was "a shock" that was hard to explain.

Taylor's decision not to unveil her ethnicity bothered Garret, who wondered whether she was being truthful or trying to hide something from him. The Love is Blind star said:

"But you are very, like, calculated about what you say, and while I love that about you, it's also like, I'm like, 'What's she hiding?'"

He explained that he felt that way because of Taylor's "slow and methodical and careful" manner of speaking. It made him wonder if it was a "carefully curated image" that she was trying to present.

Taylor defended herself by stating she wanted to know if she could find a partner solely based on her emotional and intellectual abilities. Everything else was an "extra" to her. Even then, Garrett insisted on knowing more about Taylor's identity before taking their relationship to the next level.

After Taylor explained she wanted to "feel enough" before giving away how she looked, Garrett realized what she intended. As a result, he gave up his wish of knowing her ethnicity. At the end of their date, the Love is Blind star confessed he was so attracted to Taylor that not knowing her appearance felt surreal.
