Survivor season 46 aired a brand new episode this week on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The episode contained a shocking revelation from one of the castaways. During the tribal council, before the contestants started voting, Q Burdette expressed his desire to leave the show. At the time, he said he didn't want to "steal somebody else's joy and dream."
Host, Jeff Probst spoke to Entertainment Weekly after the episode aired and chimed in on the contestant's desire to leave the show. Jeff said that he didn't think the Q was trying to quit the show in the way that Sean and Hannah did in season 45.
"Any speculation about Q has to begin with this caveat: Q is an enigma. Therefore, one can only hazard a guess as to his motives for any move he makes in the game! We've never had anyone like him before."
Survivor season 46 host Jeff Probst believes Q wants to "be the one to pay the price"
In his conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Jeff Probst opened up about Q Burdette's desire to be voted out during the latest tribal council.
Although the host said that he could only guess why the castaway wanted to leave the show, Q didn't strike him as someone who would throw in the towel. Jeff added that he thought Q "could and would stay in the jungle" and survive for months if it benefited him. He praised the season 46 contestant and said Q was determined and unafraid of "hard work."
He further said,
"My take on Q is that on some level he feels that if he is the one most responsible for a situation, then he should be the one to pay the price. So, in this case, he steps up and says, 'It's all my fault. Vote me out.'"
Jeff also said that the Q liked to cause chaos. He added that volunteering to go home from the reality show was a "great way" to cause chaos since a lot of people would have been impacted by that decision.
"When you are playing to win, and therefore not afraid of being voted out, it gives you tremendous power in the game."
What happened in Survivor season 46's latest tribal council?
In Survivor season 46 episode 8's tribal council, fans saw Tevin get voted off. However, before the council commenced, Q told his fellow contestants to vote him out. At the time, he explained that he wasn't giving up. Q said that he wanted to stay and play but he didn't want to steal someone else's dreams. He said,
"It’s not me giving up. Trust me, I wanna play and I’ve been playing since day 1. But again, when something don’t sit right with me and I feel partially responsible for it, I’ve got to own up to it and say, You know what? I’m not going to steal somebody else’s joy and dream, especially in this game where you only get the opportunity to play once."
Everyone including the host, was taken aback and confused by the statement. Tevin noted that it was "out of the blue" while Ben called it "bonkers." Jeff Probst told the season 46 cast that they could either send someone who wanted to leave back home or send home someone they had planned on eliminating.
Tevin told the cast that they shouldn't "coddle" Q to stay and listen to him instead. They then discussed what to do within their respective alliances and decided who to send home.
Q had zero votes, Venus received one vote while the majority of the cast voted for Tevin and he was eliminated.
Survivor season 46 will return next week with another episode on CBS.
