Sister Wives came to be known for its unique format which saw Kody Brown and his four wives Janelle, Meri, Christine, and Robyn living amicably as Sister Wives. Now when the show has entered season 19, after a decade of airing, only Robyn remains, as the other three wives are separated from Kody.
In episode 5, which aired on October 13, Janelle, Kody's second wife, was documented in a conversation with her and Kody's son, Gabriel. The 23-year-old brought forth accounts that he had with his father, which made him rethink his ties with him.
He complained that his father did not pay enough attention to him because he chose to spend most of his time with his fourth wife Robyn and her children.
Fans of Sister Wives took to X to praise Gabriel's stance on distancing himself from his father. That was because they agreed to Kody being unfair to his other wives and their children when it came to giving them love and attention.
"I'm so impressed by Gabriel and his wisdom. Everyone ought to take a lesson from him. He's cutting toxic ties. Yes, Sobbin has a victim complex as do everyone in that dysfunctional group. She was never mistreated!," said one fan.
"Koby doesn’t understand that Gabriel doesn’t really care how many times YOU reach out!! He’s basically done because of all the things you’ve SAID & DONE!!!" said another fan.
"I can relate to Gabriel so much regarding his father. 7 years ago I finally cut ties with my narcissistic, toxic mother who, like Kody choosing Sobbin, my mother chose her abusive 2nd husband over her kids. My therapist is proud of me. I'm proud of Gabriel," a third fan wrote.
"I’m so so so proud of Gabe for setting boundaries with Kody and sticking to them. It broke my heart seeing him so hurt," another fan wrote.
Some Sister Wives fans also called out the fact that Kody said, "I forgive you", and praised Gabriel for saying, "Forgive me for what?".
"Gabriel: 'forgive me for what?' He’s real and cuts through Kody’s bs!" an X user wrote.
"Kody via text,, 'I forgive you. Do you forgive me?' He's completely toxic and, Gabriel,, it's ok to cut him loose to reclaim yourself. He's never going to change. I can relate," wrote another fan.
"Gabe is always a real one, he keeps it real about his dead beat dad and refuses to let anyone make excuses for him," a third fan said.
"'Forgive me for what' EXACTLY GABE. What did you do wrong? NOTHING. NADA. You are a sweet angel boy and your dad is trash. You do NOT owe him any sort of apology!" another added.
The conversation between Janelle and Gabriel on Sister Wives season 19 episode 5
When Gabriel and Janelle cooked in the kitchen on episode 5 of Sister Wives season 19, Gabriel recollected his phone call with his dad. While talking, Kody kept phrasing his sentences to indicate that Gabriel owed him an apology.
Gabriel added that Kody told him he forgave him and asked him to forgive him. Gabriel questioned, "Forgive me for what?". He added that he told his dad that if he didn't take accountability, he wouldn't ever see him again.
In a Sister Wives confessional, Janelle said that Gabriel took it hard because he was someone who would go on business trips with his dad. She said that they had a good relationship and that Kody was a great father.
Gabriel then said that it would take an "act of God" for Kody to own up to his mistakes, his mom echoed his sentiments and said her former husband was stuck in his own perspective.
Kody, in a confessional, accepted he was biased but denied being patriarchal or sticking to one perspective.
New episodes of Sister Wives season 19 come out on Sundays, at 10 pm ET, on TLC.
