Love After Lockup season 5 has started a new segment called Life After Lockup, which covers the wider aspect of an inmate's life after they are released. Episode 41 was the first one in the segment, and it was released on October 4.
Joey and Kim were among the couples who were trying to get their relationship on track after the former was released from prison. In the latest episode titled Welcome Home? Joey reminded Kim of the DNA test he wanted to take to determine if he indeed was biologically connected to their 5-year-old son Kasen.
He said it had been bugging him for a while and just wanted to know if he truly was his kid. Kim resisted at first and said they had a lot going on but eventually gave in. Joey swabbed himself and Kasen and mailed the samples to a laboratory. He said they'd get the results in a couple of weeks. Fans of Love After Lockup came to X to comment on Joey's decision to do so.

"Why is Joey telling Kasen about this paternity test? The boy is 5," one fan said.
"Now that will be one hell of a plot twist if that end up being Joey’s Child !!!!" said another.

Most Love After Lockup fans criticized Joey for doing so, while some even supported his decision. A lot of them called out Kim and said he wanted to check if he was the father because they were splitting and he didn't want to provide.

"That DNA test is probably the only responsible thing Joey has ever done," another X user said.
"Kim living in another reality. No way is Joey stepping up. She means she’s buying a house Joey doesn’t even have a job," a third one added.

Joey took a paternity test on Love After Lockup season 5 episode 41
Joey said on Love After Lockup that he wanted to do this test because he was out of prison for a short period when Kim got pregnant. Kim explained in a confessional:
"In 2018, Joey had just gotten out of prison. I had just found out that my ex-husband had an affair, and I was pissed. And so, Joey and I got together for a month or two, then I found out I was pregnant and Joey went straight back to prison."
She then said "ignorance is bliss" because they all lived happily without knowing who the father was. After the DNA samples were taken, Kim said in a confessional that no matter how hard it was, she couldn't have not taken the test because she thought Joey deserved to know if he indeed was Kasen's father.
