The Circle released its latest season on Netflix on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Narrated by Michelle Buteau, the one-of-a-kind social media game series welcomed a new group of cast members, allowing them to compete against one another for $100,000.
Having entered their apartments, each contestant set up their profiles, where they introduced themselves. Some chose to play as themselves, while others planned on catfishing the cast members by hiding behind someone else's identity. They participated in daily challenges and competitions, earning rewards at every step of the show.
The games also allowed the players to gauge their competitors and understand their mindset. They played mindfully since one wrong impression could send someone home. The first game they played was Risky Quizness, where they had to answer "a series of spicy questions."
Darian, who was being his honest self, gave unfiltered answers. However, the cast members felt conflicted when he stated he would not jump in an icy lake to save a dog. The Circle fans took to X to comment on his response. Some agreed with his standpoint, while others were surprised by it.
"WHY WOULD YOU SAY NO TO SAVING A DROWNING DOG??? Oh Darian that was the dumbest answer I have ever seen omg id be judging sooooo hard as a dog owner," a fan wrote.
"I’m not jumping into a lake to save a dog either Darian," another fan commented.
Many fans of The Circle claimed Darian's answer was justified since he could not swim.
"the thing is.. this first game is making darian look bad, but if i was cast, i would’ve had the same answers. i can’t swim, but i can snoop. so. i know my strengths and they don’t make me a bad person lol," a netizen tweeted.
"I would also say no to that dog question Darian," a user reacted.
"They were all upset but he ain’t risking his life when he can’t swim lol. I was with him lol," one person commented.
At the same time, some fans of The Circle claimed Darian should not have admitted that in front of everyone.
"Darian you KNEW better omg You gotta just SAY you gon save the dog," a fan tweeted.
"Darian of course you gotta say you would save a dog!" another user wrote.
"Now Darian, you can’t tell wypipo you wouldn’t save a dog," one netizen reacted.
"I don't know how to swim" — The Circle star Darian salvages himself after fumbling the game
After a couple of steamy questions, the contestants were asked if they would jump into an "icy lake to save a dog." Heather, playing Andy, said the question would show who was "being a good person." She answered in the affirmative, stating the question was not "risky" at all. Jadejha, Darian's showmance, followed suit.
Kevin also said yes since he wanted to keep up with the facade of being a professional lifeguard.
"I'm a lifeguard, for crying out loud! That's my job. Fake job. But of course," Kevin said.
Likewise, The Circle star Savannah also answered yes. Nicky and JoJo, catfishing as Gianna, added that Gianna would "150 million percent jump into an icy lake to save a dog." Meanwhile, Deb, playing Rachel, wondered who would not do that for a dog.
Darian was the only cast member who said no.
"Hell no! I can't even swim," Darian said.
The Circle stars were surprised to see Darian's answer. It immediately led them to become suspicious of his intentions and values. They criticized Darian, stating it was a "deal-breaker" for them.
Later, to redeem himself Darian invited Andy and Kevin to a group chat, where he confessed he could not swim. He asked Kevin for some "swimming lessons," explaining the reason behind his answer.
"Kevin, I know that you're a lifeguard. I really could use some swimming lessons so I can save my dog, because I don't know how to swim," Darian's message read.
Darian's explanation reassured Andy and Kevin of his intentions, taking him off their radar. Together, they consolidated a "bros" alliance.
The Circle season 7 is available to stream only on Netflix.
