Episode 17 of The Challenge season 40 was released on December 18. Titled Location Change Era, it saw a "Fortress Bricks" challenge, which saw the players run up and down a fortress to collect pieces for a puzzle they had to solve at the end.
The episode saw Cara Maria's elimination, as 7 remaining contestants— Rachel, Michele, Kyland, Jordan, Jenny, Derek, and Bananas advanced to the finals. After last week's challenge winner, Derek targeted the girls— Cara, Jenny, and Rachel, as the rest of the contestants already progressed to the finale.
However, they had to go through one last challenge to determine the person to get the penalty in the final episode. Jordan won the challenge, which ascertained a good start for him in the finale. Fans of The Challenge took to X to react to Jordan's entry into the finale, and reflected on the game he played through the season.
"Either Jordan is just the GOAT or everybody on Season 40 is just morons but the fact that he’s the only challenger in the Final to NOT see an elimination the entire season is Unbelievable," a fan said.
"Jordan played it really smart this season. He avoided altercations, stayed out of other people's drama, spent time mending fences, strengthened existing relationships, & created new ones. I really respect his game this season," another fan said.
"Can't believe they really let Jordan make another final now watch them pay the consequence for being so d*mn negligent," added a third.
"Huge Jordan fan but I fear he isn’t winning next couple szns, he’ll be targeted super heavy I think," another wrote.
Some fans of The Challenge pointed out that the other contestants didn't want to compete against Jordan in the elimination because he was a strong contender.
"He’ll never get called out because every male is terrified to see him in an elimination & every female wants to have him as a partner in a Final. Win-win situation for Jordan, regardless," an X user wrote.
"Not only did he win the daily challenge for the guys but who wants to go against Jordan in an elimination? lol," another X user wrote.
"He won 5 dailies including on the group stage when he was a target to keep himself safe. Plus Tori won a bunch of dailies also. He played a perfect game," commented one.
"When you win…… a lot, keep your word and align with strong players on both sides of the battle it’s an all-around perfectly played season. Fear, intimidation, loyalty, and performance. He’s discovered the secret sauce," another wrote.
Jordan's win in the Fortress Bricks competition in The Challenge season 40 episode 17
For the challenge, the players had to race up to a Spanish fortress to haul 40 heavy bricks down, to the bottom of the fortress. They could only carry two at a time, so they had to make 20 runs up.
They also had to carry 10 planks back to the top, after which they would use those to solve a puzzle. The fastest one to finish the challenge would win it, and the female to finish last would compete in the elimination challenge.
Kyland and Jordan were neck-to-neck in the competition. The former was even ahead of Jordan by a full lap but fell back while assembling the puzzle because he couldn't spot the line that connected them. This gave Jordan the lead and eventually made him win.
The new episode of The Challenge season 40 comes out on Thursday, at 8 pm ET, on MTV.
