"They rigged it"— The Challenge fans react to Tina eliminating Emily in Season 40 Episode 5

The Challenge: Battle of the Eras aired Episode 5 on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The segment marked the end of the journey for two more contestants, Chris C.T. Tamburello and Emily Schromm.

The two were picked as targets in the previous episode and as a result of Era 1 coming in last in the daily challenge, they were sent to the elimination arena. Winners of the daily challenge, Era 4 members Olivia and Kyland chose Emily and Nehemiah as their competitors as they competed in Getting Hammered.

Tine emerged victorious and eliminated Emily. Fans chimed in on the winner's gameplay and were divided by the task. While some praised Tina's performance, others felt production had rigged the elimination task. One person wrote on X:

"Production has rigged an elimination ONCE AGAIN in Era 1’s favor! Why did Tina’s nails basically FALL out? Emily tried the same strategy and they didn’t budge! Production knows Era 1 would be gone by now, so they rigged it! They’ve lost all credibility."

"Enough with these janky a** eliminations. @emilynschromm nails were definitely more secure in that board than tinas. Tina basically blew on them and half the nails fell out. As for CT i feel like he had someplace to be," a fan commented.

The Challenge Season 40 Episode 5: Tina sends Emily packing in Getting Hammered

In The Challenge: Battle of the Eras aka Season 40 Episode 5, Tina, Emily, C.T., and Nehemiah competed in Getting Hammered, a task divided into two parts. As part of the first segment, the contestants had to remove 100 nails from a board and in Part 2, they had to hammer 100 nails into another board. The first person to press the buzzer after winning.

In a head-on race, Tina and Emily competed against one another. During the competition, Emily chimed in on the task and said that although she couldn't see what her doing, she could hear nails dropping like a "machine gun" was "shooting off."

The Challenge Season 40 star Brad chimed in on the task and said that he wanted Tina to win so Era 1 wouldn't lose a "key player." Commenting on the current dynamics, he said if Tina was eliminated, Rachel would have to compete in every elimination task moving forward.

Tina was the first contestant to remove all 100 nails from the first nail while Emily struggled. Johnny Bananas advised her to use the side of the hammer to "bang 'em out." He asked her to "rake them down" which helped Emily's pace.

In a confessional, Tina said:

"Don't f*ck with me. It feels so good to finally come into my own."

The Challenge star Emily said that there was nothing worse than knowing they were "behind." She added that it wouldn't be the first elimination task she had lost in the history of the show. However, Tina finished first and eliminated Emily from Season 40.

Fans commented on the elimination task online and had conflicting views. While some praised Tina's performance, others felt the task was "rigged" in Era 1's favor.
