Dancing with the Stars season 33 released its latest episode on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. The segment saw the eight remaining celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners take over the stage for the show's iconic Disney Night. They also had to participate in a team dance in addition to their regular performance.
While all tried to leave a lasting impression on the judges with their unique Disney-inspired dance routines, Chandler and pro-partner Brandon stood out, performing the Paso Doble to We Own the Night from Zombies 2. Disney star Chandler returned to the ballroom, vying to make up for last week's performance, which landed her in the bottom three.
Each judge scored Chandler's dance a 9, bringing her total to 27 out of 30. Consequently, she made it to the top of the leaderboard alongside former NFL star Danny Amendola.
However, Dancing with the Stars fans were unhappy with the scores Chandler received. They believed she was worthy of a perfect score since her performance garnered no criticism from the judges. They took to X to share their disappointment.
"THIS DANCE WAS 10 I DONT CARE WHAT THE JUDGES SAY. YES CHANDLER!!!" a fan wrote.
"not even a single 10 for brandon and chandler. i’m about to get upset," another fan commented.
"The judges not giving CHANDLER A 10 WAS CRAZY," a netizen tweeted.
Many Dancing with the Stars fans were surprised Chandler and Brandon were not given a single 10 despite getting positive reviews.
"So they gave Chandler zero criticism and gave her nothing to work on for the next week but still didn’t give her a 10? Okay," a user reacted.
"not a single negative note for chandler and brandon so where did the 1 point come off from, judges?" a person commented.
"CHANDLER KINNEY DESERVED 10S FOR THAT DANCE!!!! If Chandler doesn't take the Mirror Ball I'm Calling Foul. Chandler Kinney knocked it out of the park & yet she only got 9s? Make it Make Sense," another fan wrote.
"YOU’RE GONNA TELL ME THIS DANCE DIDN’T GET A 10?!?? I FEAR CHANDLER AND BRANDON ATE THAT UP UMMM HELLOOOOO?!?! This is the only thing I’ll be thinking about for the next 24 hours," one user tweeted.
At the same time, some Dancing with the Stars fans claimed Chandler's performance was better than others whose scores were close to hers.
"The fact that Phaedra can get all 8's when she hardly moved, but Chandler who killed her dance, could not get a single 10 is absurd to me," a person reacted.
"these judges are extremely whack phaedra can get an 8 but chandler cannot get a 10 when she tried 200 times harder," another netizen commented.
"Powerful performance" — Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba praises Chandler's dance
Last week, Chandler and Brandon found themselves towards the bottom of the leaderboard with the lowest score they had ever received in the season. The judges urged the Disney actress to dig deeper and tap into her strengths.
The Dancing with the Stars contestant took their advice and returned to the ballroom with a fierce performance, dancing the Paso Doble to We Own the Night from her breakout film Zombies 2. Chandler and Brandon donned a grunge look and maneuvered across the stage, as blue and right lights added to the thrill of their performance.
The judges were wowed as the actress flew across the stage with ease. While commenting on her act, Carrie Ann Inaba said:
"I know it can be difficult sometimes to hear the things we say. I totally understand that, hat makes me happy is when I'm proven wrong. That was a passionate, powerful performance, and I bet it felt amazing."
Judge Derek chimed in, echoing what Carrie Ann said. He complimented Chandler's ability to pull off a style as critical as Paso Doble, saying her performance had everything one would expect to see in the same. Bruno Tonioli said the choreography was spot on, applauding the actress for her display of artistry. The Dancing with the Stars duo received a combined total of 27.
After the first round of dances, the hosts announced that Chandler and Brandon were immune from next week's dance-off since they had the highest cumulative judges' points across the season. In addition, they would start the coming week with three bonus points since they survived elimination.
Hearing the news, Brandon joked and said:
"I feel like a pretty girl in high school for the first time, so I'm really excited."
Dancing with the Stars season 33 airs every Tuesday at 8 pm ET exclusively on ABC and Disney+.
