"This looks like a dystopian parody"— Internet reacts to con artist Anna Delvey's promo photoshoot with ankle monitor for DWTS

Internet sensation Anna Delvey has reportedly joined Dancing With The Stars in its upcoming season. Delvey told The Hollywood Reporter on September 4, that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) permitted her to join the reality dancing competition. However, she has to wear an ankle monitor throughout the competition.

Anna Delvey was a con artist and had duped people by eliciting money from them. Although she was sentenced to prison, she was released on February 11, 2021, after serving four years.

Ezra Sosa will be her partner in the show. Concerning the ankle monitor, she reportedly said it wouldn’t affect her performance. During the promo photo shoot too, Anna Delvey was seen posing while wearing the ankle monitor. However, netizens seem to have a lot of reactions to it. One Reddit user said;

“This looks like a dystopian parody, yet it’s real.”

Other social media users had mixed opinions. Some even shared certain political ideals while reacting to the photo shoot.

“I get so annoyed when people uplift her as some kind of anti-establishment scammer queen icon because she scammed a bunch of rich people. She didn’t want to tear down the establishment, she wanted to join in,” another person wrote.

“We shouldn't be idolizing her. She tried to obtain wealth and fame through deception, manipulation, and fraud - and now TV producers are giving that to her for free. I guess crime does pay if you're young and pretty,” a netizen commented.

“Why hasn’t she been deported yet?” a person wrote.

Many criticized the show for having a history of not bringing in the right person. Here’s what they wrote:

“I’m really not sure why people are surprised.. DWTS almost always has one controversial ‘star’ to stir up drama, encourage hate watching, and get people to vote against them,” another Reddit user commented.

“Wow, I’ve never seen the show, but I’m so f*****g seated for this,” a netizen reacted.

“Like I know ‘bad people’ have been on the show before, but she is literally only remotely a ‘star’ for being a criminal. She has no claim to fame before that. I know reality stars are not high brow either but come on now,” another person commented.

Anna Delvey hopes to have some fun in DWTS

The ex-con artist was reportedly under house arrest after being released from prison. When asked about her future in the show, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she hoped to have a little fun while getting into a little workout. Her dance partner Ezra Sosa wrote in an Instagram post on September 4;

“Thrilled to be hitting the dance floor with someone who knows how to keep everyone on their toes—both in and out of the ballroom. We’re ready to hustle our way to the top—just without the wire transfers this time.”

Other cast members from the dance reality program include Dwight Howard, Tori Spelling, Eric Roberts, Chandler Kinney, and Ilona Maher. The show returns on Thursday, September 17.

Created by Shonda Rhimes, the Netflix mini-series Inventing Anna, released in 2022, was based on Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin. The con artist posed as a billionaire heiress and cheated some of the wealthiest people in New York of money.

However, in 2019, Anna Delvey was found guilty and her wrongdoings came to light. She embezzled more than $200,000 from hotels and banks. As per the prosecutors, she forged financial documents and even managed to get a $100,000 overdraft loan. After being sent to prison, she was released in 2021 as she allegedly apologized at a parole hearing.
