"This was rigged for Tori" — The Challenge fans react to Cara Maria's elimination

The Challenge: Battle of the Eras aired a brand new episode this week on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. The segment saw the remaining cast members compete in another daily challenge followed by the last elimination arena task of Season 40.

Tori Deal and Cara Maria Sorbello competed against one another in the final elimination of the season and the latter's journey came to an end. However, fans online called production out for seemingly rigging the competition. One person wrote on X:

"Producers know Cara isn’t good in water. This was rigged for Tori. Figures. Not the first time."

"I knew there was a little to discuss tonight for cara that seemed so fishy, but not this much! Like dang how much do yall have to do to get her out! Allow 1st to be done incorrectly, extra time penalty, water elim, change up still in elim, just wow!" a fan commented.

"Im about to cry seeing production do cara dirty. Shes choking on water. You b*tches know tori swims 24/7 every season. Fake a**es! This is a setup," a tweet read.

Fans of The Challenge Season 40 were "gutted" by Cara Maria's elimination:

"Gutted that Cara Maria didn't make it to the final. I'm convinced she would've won any other kind of elimination against Tori," a person wrote.

"What a disappointing elimination. #TheChallenge40 I speak for everyone when I say this, people want to see Tori and Cara Maria in a headbanger not floating on water," a fan commented.

"The problem for me isnt the elimination, it was Tori’s wheelhouse and thats fine she got lucky, Cara has been lucky with elimination types in the past as well. The problem is that it wasn’t supposed to be Cara at all. Production f*cked up during the daily," a tweet read.

"This feels surreal"— Cara Maria chimes in on her elimination from The Challenge Season 40

In The Challenge: Battle of the Eras Episode 17, Cara Maria and Tori Deal competed against one another in the final elimination of the season. During the task, the two female contestants had to tread water for as long as they could and were surrounded by water animals. However, neither of the contestants gave up, which prompted host TJ to add another twist to the task.

Cara Maria and Tori had to keep their elbows above water and Cara Maria gave in after more than 2 and a half hours. While they were still in the water, Tori reassured Cara about her gameplay and told her that she had one "hell" of a season.

"You gotta be so f*cking proud of yourself," she added.

Cara Maria chimed in on her elimination from The Challenge Season 40 in a confessional.

"This feels so surreal," she stated.

Cara said she was extremely close to another final and it got "wanked" away from her. The cast member stated she needed to focus on her journey and realize that everything happened for a reason.

Fans of the MTV reality show commented on the elimination task and were critical of the show's production team. They alleged that Tori Deal was favored during the final elimination of The Challenge Season 40.
