The Golden Bachelorette season 1 aired its season finale this week on November 13, 2024. The segment saw frontrunner Joan Vassos pick between her finalists, Guy and Chock, ultimately ending up with the latter.
The episode started with Joan reacting to Pascal leaving the show, followed by her remaining suitors meeting her family and kids in Bora Bora. Joan spoke to her kids about having mixed feelings when she started the show and how it had progressed.
She noted that while she questioned if she was honoring their late father by being on the ABC show, she eventually found the "freedom" to fall in love again.
Chock was the first suitor to meet Ally and Nick, and spoke to the latter about not wanting to replace their father. During the meeting, he kissed Joan in front of her children, which didn't sit well with the show's audience online.
"Chock is too eager. He has zero reservations — that seems like a red flag to me. Same energy as Gerry — and look how well that worked out," one person wrote on X.
"If I was one of Joan’s children, and Chock kissed my mom right after introducing himself to me- I’d be instantly annoyed. Is it just me, or was that off-putting?" a fan commented.
"I'm no expert in micro expressions but I don't think Joan's kids liked watching Chock kiss their mom," a tweet read.
Fans of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 compared Chock to Devin from Jenn Tran's season of The Bachelorette:
"i have a feeling chock is like devin and just told joan everything she wanted to hear bc he wanted to win lol. he seems just as crazy as devin," a person wrote.
"I get bad vibes from Chock. He has pick me energy," a fan commented.
"So if Guy would have done this first, meeting the family, saying I love you etc., before Chock would have this ended differently? Joan is definitely not ready for this," a tweet read.
Fans of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 further said:
"This woman is so emotionally unready to find someone new. Every other word out of her mouth is “John”. Chock should run & Guy should thank his lucky stars. Even my wife is tired of hearing about the dead husband," a person wrote.
"I think I am one of the few people that dont mind Chock with Joan...it is really the only person that she really seems comfortable with and to have that spark ...Guy and her are not that. Why should Chock try to sell himself at the end? life is short," a fan commented.
Joan's son speaks to Chock privately in The Golden Bachelorette finale
In The Golden Bachelorette season 1 finale, Chock met with Joan's children, Ally and Nick. After speaking to both of them together, Chock and Nick had a private conversation, during which the latter told his mother's potential final suitor that it was a tough experience.
Nick added that he had high expectations from whoever would be replacing his father and called that "difficult." Chock told The Golden Bachelorette frontrunner's son that he had no intentions of replacing his late father John.
"It's just, that's not my place. I'm just here to have a great life with your mom, love her, and have adventures and just enjoy it 'til the end," Chock said.
After the conversation, Nick told his mother that he liked Chock and praised her for being on The Golden Bachelorette. He recalled her telling them to be "courageous" and to take risks and praised her for doing the same in a "graceful" way.
"We couldn't be more proud to be your children," Nick added.
Fans of The Golden Bachelorette reacted to the interaction online and were critical of Chock's behavior in front of Joan's kids.
