Former Bachelorette contestant James McCoy Taylor was taken into police custody on August 4 after facing multiple charges, including assault.
The public information officer for the College Station Police Department, David Simmons, said in a statement to Page Six that the 38-year-old was handcuffed at a bar located in the Northgate entertainment district of Brazos County, Texas. He was later brought into custody in the nearby Bryan Police Department on warrants related to an incident that happened on April 24.
The former reality TV star faced two charges, unlawful restraint and assault causing bodily injury. That said, James McCoy Taylor didn't stay in jail for long as he was released on the same day with two $4,000 surety bonds for each charge.
James McCoy Taylor speaks out after assault charges
The former Bachelorette star maintained his innocence despite being accused of assault and dismissed the charges in a statement shared with People magazine on August 5. James McCoy Taylor, who joined The Bachelorette for its 12th season, noted that there was not so much a scratch on himself after the April 24 incident. He showed pictures of his whole body to the police as evidence, adding:
"I'm a pretty big guy but I was trying to 'unlawfully restrain' a girl and she just, got away? And walked right to her Uber right outside my house? With NO injuries?"
He mentioned that if there was any injury from the incident, it would have already been circulating on the internet but there is none. Sharing a message for people who want to "ruin his life," he said:
"To people reading this: If you want fame, it never ends up like that. If you want money, it never ends up like that. If you want to ruin my life, it always ends up like that... keep it up."
James McCoy Taylor reiterated that he's nice to "every person" that he meets and would never hurt anybody.
While the Bachelorette alum shared a statement after his arrest, there was little to no information available about the April 24 incident. His statement also sparked more questions as to what happened on that day, as he mentioned a "daughter" whom he didn't know the name of because "they didn't spend much time together."
That said, it's not the first time that James McCoy Taylor had a run-in with the law as he was sentenced to time served in Brazos County jail in November 2023 after he was found guilty of unlawful carrying of a weapon and getting behind a wheel while intoxicated in 2022. As a result, the Bachelorette star served five days at the Brazos County Detention Center and was ordered to pay a total of $1085 on fines and court costs.
