Jason Lee was born in Stockton, California, but moved to Los Angeles in 2006. As per the Los Angeles Times, when Jason moved to Los Angeles, he was a labour union director until 20089. He got his first break in the reality show, Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood in 2015, and then again in seasons three and six.
Furthermore, he was then seen in the TV game show Wild ‘N Out. Jason is best known for his website, Hollywood Unlocked. After its success he started his own podcast, Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee in 2015. The podcast grew extremely popular as he has interviewed many popular celebrities like Amber Rose, Cardi B and even Kevin Hart.
In 2023, Jason starred in the Revolt TV show, The Jason Lee Show where he was again seen interviewing stars like Laverne Cox and Cardi B.
Jason has often talked about his experience and rise from a labour union officer to a podcast and TV host. Speaking to BET in an interview published on October 14, 2024, Jason exclaimed:
“It’s very different from being in the media and covering pop culture to being in politics. When I talk about Hollywood Unlocked, people are going to like my opinion or not. But when you’re in the streets trying to tackle homelessness, trying to make the street safer for kids, making sure people live in market-rate housing, and have a community that can thrive again, it’s a very different experience.”
He continued:
“Running for office took me back to my days of working for the Union which I did for 11 years at SEIU. This is real purposeful work. But being able to help people in the community where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where I’ve moved back to, is where the heart is. It’s my passion.”
As Jason posted a "thank you message" after he won against Vice Mayor Kimberley Warmsley, several messages wishing him congratulations poured in. However, Lee has not acknowledged the reactions of the masses.
