Episode 10 of The Masked Singer season 12 was released on December 4. The episode, titled Merging of the Masks, documented four contestants from all three groups competing to advance to the Semi-Finals.
Wasp and Goo from Group B, Strawberry Shortcake from Group C, and Buffalos from Group A, came together to give it their all once again. During the Group B finals, Goo was to be eliminated as Wasp won the Battle Royale, but because his scores were close behind, he was kept.
The case wasn't so in episode 10 because this time, Goo bit the dust and was revealed to Kobie Turner, the football defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL.
Fans of the show came to X to react to Kobie Turner's elimination. Some thought the decision wasn't apt, while others were shocked to see the player sing so well and make it this far.
"Kobie Turner?! No way!" said one fan.
"Goo is Kobie Turner from the @RamsNFL Jenny was right again," another said.
"I knew it, And I was right, Kobie Turner was the Goo," a third one added.
"Jenny was right! Goo is Kobie Turner!" another wrote.
Some fans of The Masked Singer were sad to see Goo go.
"Goo was too talented to go home. Mediocre singing seems to always get picked," an X user wrote.
"I highly doubt we will ever see the day where an Athlete wins the golden mask trophy, but Kobie Turner has the best voice of any athlete to appear on #TheMaskedSinger so far!" another X user wrote.
"KOBIE WAS FANTASTIC!! Sorry to see Goo go," commented one.
"Awww... Kobie, you're still a warrior under #GooMask no matter what!" another wrote.
Goo's performance and the panelists' guesses on The Masked Singer season 12 episode 10
For his first performance in The Masked Singer Quarter Finals, Goo sang Iris by Goo Goo Dolls and hoped to advance to the Semi-finals without having to go to the Battle Royale.
However, Wasp and Buffalos took the top two spots so he had to battle it out with Strawberry Shortcake.
For his Battle Royale song, Goo sang Hold on, I'm Coming by Sam & Dave, while his opponent chose to sing Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara. Strawberry's performance was better than Goo's so she advanced, while Goo went home.
Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg was the only panelist to guess Goo right. She knew it was Kobie Turner, while Robin Thicke came close by going with another L.A. Rams player, Aaron Donalds.
Ken Jeong thought it was Shaquille O'Neal, while Rita guessed it to be John Cena. After the panelists were done guessing, Goo confirmed their guesses about him being a non-singer by saying:
"It’s been really meaningful to hear the panelists’ comments. Because, spoiler alert, I don’t do this for a living. I’ve always been a Goo with two dreams: Singing and what you might know me for in real life. And everyone said I couldn't do both. But I never wavered".
He added that being on The Masked Singer had been the time of his life and a "test drive" into his other passion of singing. Mentioning his fiancé, Kobie said that being only a step away from the Semi-finals with her by his side had taught him that he could "Goo" both.
Lastly, he added that he hoped that people saw him for who he was even under the mask.
New episodes of The Masked Singer season 12 come out on Wednesdays, at 8 pm ET, on FOX.
