Season 16 of the coveted reality TV show, Shark Tank is all set to premiere on October 18 on ABC. Amidst the hype for the upcoming season, fans of the family-favorite show want to know more about brands from the past seasons that the sharks invested in.
Nomiku was one such brand that was applauded for its innovation after it premiered on the show's season 8, which aired in 2017. Founded by Abe and Lisa Fetterman, Nomiku was a sous vide cooking device that would fix on any pot or vessel and helped users heat the water to the perfect cooking temperature for a fuss-free gourmet cooking experience.
Venture Capitalist Chris Sacca, saw potential in the company's future and invested $250,000 for 10% Equity in Nomiku. However, the company shut down because of negative reviews. They announced their shutdown in an Instagram post dated December 13, 2019. Their statement read:
"Well, we're sorry to say that we've reached the end of the road."
However, their website, try.nomiku.com still remains online.

After Nomiku Sous Vide Cooker was watched nationwide on the ABC show, the "Shark Tank Effect" came into play and the brand got traction. The product was seen as a useful tool not only by home cooks but also by professional chefs. Those who integrated the device into their cooking included famous restaurants like Noma.
In 2016, Nomiku introduced a wifi-enabled sous vide cooker which was reportedly priced at $249, compared to their original model which went for $199. The wifi enabled cooker was of help to users who wanted to control their cooking remotely, through their phones. Under its umbrella of products and services, Nomiku also released two cookbooks and a meal delivery service.
However, this new wifi version of the company ran them into trouble. It received mixed reviews and in 2016, the CNET even called out the product for being bulky and outdated as according to them, it only offered a remote control.
After the fame Sous Vide Cooker reached, more businesses with similar products came to the market. They had more features and were also cheaper. This reportedly made Nomiku suffer. As the last try to get back into business, Nomiku launched a third product with RFID technology that could set the temperatures automatically. However, this model didn't stay on the market either.
Moreover, Nomiku had delays in getting Kickstarter orders through, as per the customer reviews on the platform. Many customers also complained of faulty products, while some never received their devices.
So after a lifetime sale of $8 million, Nomiku had to shut down because they couldn't fix their issues with manufacturing. According to their Instagram, Nomiku shut down in 2019 after trying to get more venture capital for the company.
Founders Lisa and Abe moved took on other ventures. According to their LinkedIn profile, Lisa took up psychedelic integration and counseling, while Abe went into A.I. engineering, working with Sourceress and Imbue.

On Shark Tank, Lisa and Abe Fetterman came asking for $250,000 for a 5% Equity in their company Nomiku. The device promised precision in temperatures for gourmet cooking, suitable for both home cooks and chefs because of its easy-to-use design.
The cooker could heat water upto 90'C and needed no monitoring ensuring a seamless experience. Each piece cost $199 to make and was sold for the same price, which meant there was no profit margin yet.
Shark Tank panelist Mark Cuban was out after he saw issues with the scaling of the product. Lori and Robert agreed with Mark and stepped out of the deal. Kevin offered the duo $250,000 for 10% Equity, but he was out too because they tried persuading Chris to take the deal. Chris also offered them the same amount as Kevin did, and they accepted it.
