Sister Wives star Meri Brown shared an update on her only child, Leon, and their media appearances and the desire to keep things private.
In an exclusive interview with People, published on December 13, Meri shared that Leon has chosen to not be "super public" about their life. She added that to respect her child's decision, she doesn't talk about them too much.
"They, by their choice, have made a decision to not be super public. So I don't talk about them so much," Meri said.
The Sister Wives star empathized that Leon controls the narrative of their life. Whatever information or updates the public sees on their social media is what they decide to share.
"Whatever they want to put on social media is what people get to know about them. We talk often. They're doing well," she said.
"They have chosen to go to people who they can trust"— Sister Wives star Gwendlyn Brown explains sibling Leon's decision to distance themselves
Leon Brown is the only child of Meri and her ex-husband, Kody. They came out as transgender in June 2022, receiving significant support from their mother.
Since then, Leon has been active on their Instagram account (@leointhemountains), where they share snippets from their life and outings with friends and partner Audrey Kriss.
However, they haven't appeared on Sister Wives since publicly coming out as transgender in 2022. As Meri mentioned, they have chosen to maintain a private life by stepping away from the reality show and limiting their public presence.
In a YouTube video posted on February 19, 2023, on Gwendlyn Brown's channel, Gwendlyn addressed her siblings' decision to distance themselves from the family after coming out as transgender.
Gwendlyn shared that Leon was not close with the Brown family, as they had created space for their emotional health. She further mentioned that Leon had been separating themselves from the situation and sticking to people that are safer for them.
"It's not that they're not fitting in, it's that they have chosen to go to people who they can trust, and it's just they found a safer community for themselves," the Sister Wives star continued.
Meri's support for her child Leon
Leon had their mother's support right from the time they came out as transgender in June 2022. Meri shared Leon's announcement post on her Instagram Story, captioning it, "You are my sunshine."
Leon's coming-out post was shared on their Instagram account on June 28, 2022. The post included two photos, and in the caption, they shared their personal story.
"Someone recently told me that i didn't have to have all of my s--- figured out in order for me to share myself with the world," Leon wrote on Instagram. "So here's me, definitely not having almost any of my s--- figured out, to let you know that i am trans. My name is Leon or Leo and my pronouns are they/them," the caption began.
Leon further reflected on the first time they realized that they didn't identify as a girl. They shared that they were pretty young and had to "unfortunately" grow up in a "context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive."
"So i continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman. and here's the thing, i'm finally ready to share my favorite self with the world. and that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic," Leon continued.
On March 31, 2023, Meri celebrated her child Leon Brown in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility. The Sister Wives star shared a photo of Leon with their partner, Audrey Kriss, on her Instagram Story, expressing her immense support.
"I see you! I love you! I got you!" Meri wrote in the story.
