The company eventually became one of the key players during the dot-com era. It was acquired by Yahoo! in 1999 for $5.7 billion in stock, a milestone achievement in Cuban's business life.

He further diversified his business into sports and entertainment. He bought the Dallas Mavericks in 2000 and co-founded the media company 2929 Entertainment, which produced and distributed films.
