The reality survival show with only one rule is back and this time things are getting real. Outlast Season 2 will be released on September 4, 2024, on Netflix in the US. There will be eight episodes like the previous season, with the first six set to premiere together, while the other two are scheduled for September 11.
There will be 16 contestants, split into a group of four. The participants are allowed to change their team. If someone wants to leave the challenge, they can do so by shooting a flare gun into the sky. All they have to do is survive the Alaskan conditions and the last team standing will win $1 million.
But there is only one rule: be a part of a team. If a contestant is left all alone, then they will be eliminated.
Since there is only one rule, people can do anything. In the last season, fans saw Team A steal Team B's sleeping bags, leaving them with no cover for the cold Alaskan night.
This stealing situation angered several fans and some of them demanded the producers put up a rule for no stealing. But looking at the trailer that was released by Netflix for the upcoming season, stealing is still part of the game.
Outlast Season 2 Trailer: What to expect
Netflix dropped a trailer for Outlast Season 2 on August 7, 2024. The trailer starts with one of the contestants reading out the rules of the survival show to his fellow contestants.
First, the viewers are introduced to data analyst Emily Johnston, who has led various survival courses, including navigation and cold weather survival. She can identify numerous regional plans and set up her shelter in the woods.
In the trailer, Emily is rowing across a sea to make it to a different part of the land. She seems to be struggling as the tides are taking her out and drifting her away from the land. Emily acknowledges that she is in a life-threatening situation and one of her fellow contestants doubts if she has the strength to get back.
Fans are then introduced to Megan Buchanan, a rocket scientist and adventure athlete. She says that her team is fully committed to getting through this together.
Megan is familiar with extreme cold conditions and knows how to make fire, catch fish, and build structures. She has experience in various outdoor activities like rock climbing, backpacking, and polar exploration. Her background may help her in different parts of this challenge.
Further in the trailer for season 2 of the reality survival show, fans can hear one of the contestants saying that he is hungry and cold and that he is done. This is followed by a scene of someone loading a flare gun and shooting it, eliminating himself in the process.
Now the person who shot this flare gun might not be the one who was speaking before. But in any case, a person getting eliminated increases the chance of the other team winning and they can be further seen rejoicing the incident.
Like the previous season, some contestants will play an honest game while others will pull all the tricks they can to win the challenge.
At the end of the Outlast trailer, one of the contestants can be seen getting blacked out and being unconscious. The medical team is called immediately to take care of the contestants.
