Netflix renewed the real estate reality series Owning Manhattan for a new season following the popularity of its first season, which became a worldwide phenomenon. The series looks into the high-stakes world of New York City's luxury real estate market. Owning Manhattan focuses on the charming real estate broker Ryan Serhant and his brokerage named Serhant.

The show's first season was released on Netflix in 2024, and gained immense popularity as it gave viewers a look into the competitive real estate market in Manhattan. It also showed them the obstacles and successes of selling some of the city's costliest residences.

With the second season, audiences can expect more drama, high-pressure deals, and a deeper look at the personalities who make up Serhant's team.

Ryan Serhant's vision for Owning Manhattan season 2

The show's star is the owner of the brokerage, Ryan Serhant, who ensures that his firm stays on top of its game. He expressed enthusiasm about the revival in an interview with Tudum. Ryan also spoke about the overwhelming response the show got from the viewers.

He added that fans had high expectations and knew they were "going to give them something unexpected." The businessman noted that Owning Manhattan was "so original" and different from other shows, stating that seeing people fall in love with it on a global scale was "insane."

Serhant also teased what fans may expect from the second season, claiming that the tensions would be much higher.

"I'm giving everyone a heads up to invest in a couch with a seatbelt. Turbulence is coming," the businessman said.

This suggests that the new season will expand on the drama and tension from the first season. It may also particularly focus on the final moments of season 1, when Serhant was allowed to sell an entire building valued at over $300 million.

The success of season 1

Owning Manhattan debuted to considerable acclaim, quickly making its mark on Netflix. The season spent a week on Netflix's Global Top 10 TV category and ranked among the Top 10 TV programs in 30 countries. In its initial week, the show amassed over 512 million minutes of viewing time, reflecting its widespread popularity and appeal.

The series gained acclaim for its focus on real-time listings, sales, and Serhant and his team's losses in the competitive New York real estate market. It featured a distinct blend of high-end real estate, business methods, and human stories, all set in the fast-paced milieu of one of the world's most competitive markets.

Season 2 aims to dig further into the lives and backstories of the important characters at Serhant. The firm's owner, Ryan Serhant, has hinted that more emphasis will be placed on the personal tales of realtors Tricia Lee and Jess Markowski. He also claimed they will focus on Nile's journey, which could not be completely addressed in the first season owing to time constraints.

He said Tricia and Jess' backstories were "a lot," and in the first season, they didn't have the time to "really dig through" Nile and what he had gone through.

High-stakes real estate deals

One of the attractions of Owning Manhattan is the presentation of some of New York's most recognizable and pricey houses. The inaugural season included the Central Park Tower Penthouse, a 17,500-square-foot home with the world's tallest outdoor deck, priced at $250 million.

Although Serhant was close to finding a buyer, the transaction fell through, leaving viewers in suspense. The second season may revisit this storyline, either to provide closure or to introduce fresh twists to the saga of this exceptional property.

The first season also included the Jardim penthouse in Chelsea, which sold for $15 million shortly after the episode aired. The upcoming season might investigate this sale and might provide insights into its completion and the hurdles the club faced.

Executive producers' perspective

The renewal of Owning Manhattan has also been met with enthusiasm by the series’ executive producers and World of Wonder co-founders, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. They expressed their excitement in a statement, saying that they were "thrilled with the news" that Netflix was "moving forward with a season 2 of Owning Manhattan."

Additional details about Owning Manhattan season 2, like its release date and number of episodes, have yet to be revealed. However, fans can watch the first season of the show, as it is currently available to be streamed only on Netflix.
