After an epoch-making season 1, Netflix came up with Outlast season 2, which premiered on September 4.
Outlast is a survival show, where 16 contestants participated intending to last in an Alaskan jungle. The team that outlasts the other teams using meager resources and wits will be the one to take home a whopping $1 million.
The first set consisted of 6 episodes which saw 2 of the four initial teams going home. The second set will consist of episodes 7 and 8 and will come out on September 11.
Team Bravo delved on the banks of a lake, which had a small island about 500 meters away from the mainland. Emily devised the plan to take a trip to the island in search of vegetables, fruits, and animals to hunt. Together, team Bravo built a raft which Emily paddled to the island.
Emily filled her bag with fruit from the untouched land she discovered, something other teams hadn't imagined. However, while paddling her raft back, she got stuck due to the high tide. As it grew dark and cold, she had to call for rescue and abandon the mission, returning home.
Fans of Outlast have flocked to X to call out Emily's gameplay. Some think her play was lousy from the beginning, others thought her decision to go to the island was wrong.
"Thank God Emily is gone, pathetic isn't even close," said one fan.
"The highlight of my 2024 was seeing Emily Johnston float off on that shitty raft. Perfectly encapsulating feminisms arrogance free fall into a flaming pile of sh*t. (Oh and why has Bri done literally nothing despite being so “accomplished”?)," said another one.
"Thank you, lord! In back-to-back episodes Emily and Bri are gone! Goodbye and good riddance!" said a third one.
"Loved Sammy & Emily and was kinda hoping they’d part from the others on their team in an epic ending. Sad to see Em go," one fan commented.
Some Outlast fans were plainly just thrilled to see her go. Some kept her mannerisms alongside Bri and said they were glad both these ladies went home.
"I’ve never wanted two people to lose more than Emily and Bri on #Outlast because they’re both just so insufferable it makes me cringe so much whenever they talk," an X user wrote.
"Emily from #outlast is the dumbest b*tch I've ever seen. Classic case of women thinking they are physically equal to men and losing resources to prove her dumb point," wrote another user.
"I can't stand Emily. Constantly complaining and talking about everyone but not doing a damn thing," a fan commented.
"Emily's ego got her eliminated. She didn't properly assess the strength and experience required to make that trek across the water. Boldness is half the battle," chimed in another.
Emily's venture into the lake got her eliminated from Outlast season 2
Once Emily set out from the island to return back to the mainland in episode 5 of Outlast season 2, she barely made it to the middle of her way before the current from the high tide started sweeping her into the sea.
Despite constant paddling motion, Emily wasn't getting closer to the mainland, instead was going farther away towards the sea. After a point, her physical and mental strength gave up. She stopped paddling rigorously and started taking more breaks. Yet she kept picking it back up and tried keeping it going for her teammates who were encouraging her to get through by yelling from the banks.
But she could see her run coming to an end as she started accepting that paddling was getting her nowhere. She kept saying she was scared because hypothermia could set in and the sun had already started to go down, which meant the temperatures were going to freeze even more.
She knew calling for rescue meant going home but because she was in an impossible situation, she wasn't left with any other option. She gave in, was rescued on a boat, and taken back to her team for a last goodbye.
Bri was sad because she looked upto Emily's strength. Sammy and Drake were disappointed because they lost their bags and the food she was getting back.
Episodes 7 and 8 of Outlast season 2 will be released on September 11, on Netflix.
