"People can be envious"— The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Todd chimes in on his relationship with Bronwyn

During The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 Reunion Part 1, which premiered on January 22, Bronwyn Newport and her husband, Todd, opened up about the current status of their relationship.

Bronwyn shared that she learned a lot about her relationship with Todd after watching the recent season, and they decided to work on it.

Todd then shared that while some cast members didn't know him well, they made a lot of assumptions about him, which he found "strange." He added that Bronwyn and he had grown a lot over the years, and believed some people were "envious" of their progress and personal growth.

"Bronwyn and I have a very strong relationship. We've got ups and downs like everybody. We have a great time together. We've experienced so many things over the last 10 years. I think a lot of people can be envious of what we've done together," he said.

In The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 Reunion Part 1, host Andy Cohen read a fan question asking Bronwyn if she was concerned about her husband Todd being on the show, especially given that he is "very blunt."

Bronwyn responded that she let Todd be himself on the show. She further noted that after watching the recent season, the couple learned a lot about their relationship, and based on that, decided to work on it.

"While we filmed that we had a good relationship, but we have a much stronger one now because there are things that I've seen from other people's perspectives that I want to change and the way I speak to Todd. And I won't speak for [Todd] but you said similar things to me," she said.

After Todd shared his thoughts in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City on his relationship with Bronwyn, he pointed out that some people seemed "envious" of their progress and personal growth.

Andy then asked Bronwyn to reflect on the conversation regarding her behavior on the show, as well as any moments or actions from her fellow cast members that she felt had made her stronger.

Bronwyn shared that she tends to have a sarcastic spin to her sense of humor and that tries to make a joke before anyone else. She explained that because of this, she had often unintentionally made jokes at the expense of her husband, Todd, which she felt was not good about her.

"A lot of times that comes across like I'm making a joke at Todd's expense or at the stability of my marriage is expense and that it does take its toll to watch the world thinks that I'm the one speaking negatively about my spouse or my marriage, and Todd didn't deserve that," the 'The Real Housewives' of Salt Lake City star said.

Meanwhile, Todd chimed that he often tends to be "blunt" and "too direct" in most of the situations. Reflecting on that, he had a conversation with Bronwyn where he committed to working on that aspect.

Andy then asked Todd if he had set some limits when he decided to join The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. He responded that the topic of Bronwyn's daughter, Gwen, was something he believed was "off-limit".

"Well, we said a couple things were off-limits. Bronwyn's daughter, Gwendolyn, who I've been with for 10 years, she's 18, I've been with her the majority of her life. So bringing up issues that were very personal and very sensitive to her was completely unacceptable to me. Almost to the point of being libelous and what was what was asserted," he said.

When Lisa Barlow's husband John asked Todd who he was referring to, he bluntly stated that it was his wife. He added that Lisa shouldn't have talked about Gwen's paternal family on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 After Show episode.
