The Later Daters is an ongoing Netflix reality TV series in which six single baby boomers go on blind dates to find a potential partner. To help them in this process, dating expert Logan Ury assists them in managing their expectations and expressing themselves better.
In episode 1, a cast member Nate was about to go on a date, and show host Ury shared a piece of advice with him. While discussing Nate's relationship history, Ury encouraged him not to avoid vulnerability on his dates. She told him to not have a wall and not try to appear as a "perfect guy." Ury continued:
"I feel like if I imagine you today versus I imagine you with a life partner, the thing that you worked on was trust. People are drawn to vulnerability. That's what makes us feel safe. Because if you come in with a wall, 'I'm the perfect guy,' sometimes it makes the other person feel intimidated or less than."
The Later Daters season 1 premiered on Netflix on November 29, 2024. The synopsis of episode 1, titled Here's to Love!, reads:
"Suzanne goes on her first-ever blind date. Anise, an admitted self-saboteur, tries not to judge George too quickly. Buttoned-up Nate relaxes his rules."
Dating coach Logan Ury encourages Nate to open up on The Later Daters episode 1
In The Later Daters episode 1, the dating coach and relationship expert Logan Ury went to Nate's house. She talked to him about his dating history, kids, career, and hobbies in an attempt to get to know him better. During her confessional interview, she described Nick "as a very extreme person." While evaluating his personality, she said:
"He has a military thing. He has his fraternity thing. His house was so clean. In many ways, this is just a very buttoned-up person. Will this guy let me in?"
Opening up about his past, Nate revealed that he had a kid while he was in college with his girlfriend at that time, who later turned into his best friend. Nate talked about his engagement as well as marriage. He added that he struggled and worked on his trust issues after his 16-year marriage came to an end. Nate further said:
"And I did have one fiancee that actually got pregnant by another guy while we were engaged. The next relationship, that was the person I actually fell in love with, my ex-wife. We stayed married for 16 years. There were some other trust issues."
Upon hearing Nate's response, Ury advised him to shift his perspective about dating as it was no longer similar to what dating in his 20s was like. The Later Daters dating coach further elaborated on why getting into a relationship "later in life" was "more like a merger." She continued:
"Dating in your 20s it's like a startup. Two people coming together, creating a company. when you're dating later in life, let's say, in your fifties or sixties, it's more like a merger. There's two separate companies that are coming together. And those are notoriously hard."
The newly released episodes of The Later Daters season 1 are available on Netflix.
