Bryton Constantin, one of the contestants of Perfect Match season 2 hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The 23-year-old is a former professional footballer who was signed by the Clemson Tigers in 2019. An injury cut his playing career short, but Bryton has transitioned by paving a career in reality television.
His recent appearances in Netflix's reality show Squid Game: The Challenge and Perfect Match have brought him into the limelight.
Bryton embraces his outspoken persona in reality television giving audiences worldwide the juicy content they seek in these shows. On his Instagram account, Bryton even used a line he mentioned on Perfect Match to Dominique Defoe which caused a stir amongst the fans online:
"Yoga is not a workout."
From football to reality TV
Bryton's football career was marked by promise but ultimately marred by setbacks. He attended Clemson University from 2019 to 2022 and played football for their team, Clemson Tigers. A knee injury prevented him from making an impact on the field due to which his time on the football field was cut short. When he appeared on Squid Game: The Challenge, the brief description given by Netflix was:
"For fun, Bryton likes learning about God and the Earth, as well as riding dirtbikes, working out, cooking, and reading. He plans on forming alliances while also trusting himself. He says he tends to be very outgoing and confident."
Better known as player number 432, Bryton's foray into reality TV saw him classified as a "bully" by the fans. Husnain Asif, also known as player number 198 called him a "frat boy," during episode 2. Bryton stood out for his competitive spirit throughout the series and even acknowledged his demeanor on a Collider interview in 2023:
“I do understand that my personality is hard to like, especially in an environment like that. If you're not one of my friends, then 9 times out of 10, you're not gonna like me or understand why I am the way that I am.”
In an interview with Screenrant in 2023, Bryton claimed that the series was pre-determined. Referring to the Dalgona challenge where the contestants had to cut out the shapes in the cookie without breaking it, he shared:
“The cookie challenge, I kind of lucked up. My cookie broke, and I got passed, and I was really surprised,”
The Perfect Match controversy
Bryton's reality journey has brought him to season 2 of Netflix's newest dating show, Perfect Match where contestants aim to find a place in the show and someone's heart.
Bryton's personality was quickly noticed by other contestants and he soon paired up with another contestant on the show, Dominique Defoe, a Too Hot To Handle alum.
While the Perfect Match episodes that aired only showed the audience some minor disagreements regarding yoga during the compatibility challenge, Dominique later revealed on TikTok that the real reason behind their conflict was Bryton's alleged "hateful rhetoric" towards certain groups of people. In an interview with Netflix, Dominique said about Bryton:
“From the first night, I hated him. I literally lost my voice screaming at him. But we’d already matched at that point, so what can you honestly really do?”
After the episodes aired, Bryton addressed the controversy by posting on Instagram with captions stating:
"I’m still super confused on what I did wrong, I thought I was being the 'toxic man' that she wanted… Tell me what I did wrong??? But that’s exactly what happens when you deal with people who don’t know what they truly want."
Although the relationship between Bryton and Dominique was a significant talking point among viewers, Bryton was brought back after facing elimination and paired with Elys Hutchinson in the show leaving fans surprised by the prospects of what the finale will bring.
Perfect Match season 2 finale is all set to release only on Netflix on June 21.
