In the months leading up to their breakup in December 2024, Craig Conover and Paige DeSorbo, stars of Southern Charm and Summer House, encountered various challenges, particularly regarding their long-distance relationship. Conover, who resides in Charleston, South Carolina, and DeSorbo, who lives in New York City, both highlighted the impact of their physical distance.

Despite this, Craig Conover explained the importance of focusing on their present happiness rather than being influenced by future uncertainties. He underscored their decision not to let external pressures define their relationship. In a June 2024 exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Conover shared,

“You really just try to quiet the outside noise with each other,”

Southern Charm's Craig Conover addresses the challenges of living apart

Throughout 2024, Conover and DeSorbo were candid about the challenges they faced due to their geographic separation. They often addressed the question of how their relationship functioned, with both of them living in different cities.

In the interview with Us Weekly, Conover also addressed the assumption that living in different cities would eventually lead to a breakup. He stated,

“We’re just going to break up and meet new people? No.”

He highlighted that their ability to travel and use technology, like FaceTime, helped them maintain their connection. He explained that they were able to spend time together thanks to the flexibility in their schedules and the ease of travel. As the Southern Charm star explained,

“With FaceTime and with effort and the ease of our travel, we’re fortunate that we can fly when we want, and we make it work.”

Maintaining a healthy relationship despite the distance

Despite living in separate locations, Conover and DeSorbo worked to ensure their relationship remained strong. In the same June 2024 interview, Conover detailed their efforts to maintain balance in their relationship. He clarified that their "rhythm" was effective because they both prioritized spending time together despite their hectic schedules. Conover elaborated, saying,

"She gets to come down here and just float in the pool and just relax. We’ve got our bees — she was down yesterday, and we got our new bees and we’re hanging out with them.”

Conover also noted that they would often visit New York, allowing DeSorbo to enjoy the city’s lifestyle. He emphasized that they made time to unwind together even with their busy professional lives.

Furthermore, Conover characterized their relationship as being in the "best place we’ve ever been." He highlighted that they aimed to grow stronger with each passing day, and the Southern Charm star remarked.

“You want to be stronger today than you were yesterday, and it just works for us.”

Navigating the future

As the relationship progressed, Conover acknowledged the pressure of dealing with future uncertainties. In a September 2024 interview with Us Weekly, he shared that the lack of a definite plan could be stressful at times, yet it did not stop them from appreciating the present moment. He stated,

“Some people might not be able to do that, and sometimes it does get stressful and tough and not being able to have a plan. But in reality, we don’t need to right now.”

Conover also addressed the idea that the couple might need to make future decisions regarding where to live. The Southern Charm star explained that, at the time, they did not need to pick a permanent location. Conover mentioned that while some people may opt for more structured living arrangements, this was not his priority. He explained,

“I could go date someone that lived in Charleston and have that structure, but it wouldn’t be the right person.”

Despite the challenges of living apart, Conover highlighted that the couple was happy and content with their situation. The Southern Charm star stated,

“With our ability to travel and technology, we’re very fortunate to be able to spend, you know, half our time in New York and the other half in Charleston. They’re two great places to live.”
