What happened in Rhythm + Flow: Brazil episode 3?
At the start of episode 3, titled, Let's Get This Started! Afrodite and Maria Preta were asked to return to the lounge while the judges deliberated which rapper to send home. Meanwhile, the performances carried on and rappers took to the stage to battle each other for a spot in the next stage of the competition.
For the next battle, Azzy pitted Cold Jas against Muse Maya. As the artists clashed, Muse Maya received a bigger response from the crowd and the judges. At the end of their performance, some mentors discussed how "arrogant" Muse Maya's verses were while others noted how strong Cold Jas' flow was. Despite the compliments, they felt both rappers needed to rework their diction.
After much discussion, Rhythm + Flow: Brazil judge Tasha announced Muse Maya would advance to the next round. While Muse Maya celebrated, Cold Jas confessed she despised losing.
Gabrielu and Rui'f's battle was next. They went head-to-head, delivering a power-packed performance. During deliberation, Rhythm + Flow: Brazil judge Djonga confessed Rui'f felt "more like an artist" whereas Gabrielu had better lines. The judges decided to switch the order and make Rui'f and Gabrielu battle again since they could not pick a winner from the first round.
Before announcing the battle's winner, the judges welcomed Aphrodite and Maria Preta onstage. While commenting on Rui'f and Gabrielu's battle, Djonga felt their performance lacked the punch, whereas Rhythm + Flow: Brazil mentor Filipe claimed it missed a "good amount of content." Consequently, they decided to advance Maria Preta and Aphrodite, sending Gabrielu and Rui'f home.
The battles ended with the elimination, giving way to the features round where each contestant had to collaborate with renowned rappers. Before the Rhythm + Flow: Brazil stars headed to the next stage, the judges advised them not to "stick to one strategy" but to use punchlines, melody, spoken rhyme, and more.
The artists began preparing for the feature performances, nervous about working with famed artists. While Maria Preta feared the artist would dislike her flow, Novak and RT strived to find ways to make the verses stand out.
The first collaboration was between OGCapitu and WIU, singing Coração de Gelo. After the performance, Capitu admitted she "felt the pressure of performing a hit." She added she was "terrified" WIU would dislike her lyrics. However, the Rhythm + Flow: Brazil star felt "happy and fulfilled" by the end of her performance.
Next up was Novak singing Contramao with N.I.N.A. Although he felt underconfident in his verse, the judges felt otherwise.
"It was very interesting. Your structure was amazing, bro. Very nice," Filipe Ret said.
Following Novak was Maria Preta. She collaborated with MC Luanna on her song, 44. The Rhythm + Flow: Brazil contestant explained that her strategy for the song was to make it sound like a conversation and switch up her flow. The judges were pleased that she listened to their advice, however, they were still concerned about her diction.
Muse Maya and Sidoka took to the stage and sang Louis V, Menina Linda. At the end of the performance, Tracie and Tasha complimented Muse Maya's stage presence and attitude.
The last performance was a collaboration between RT and Vulgo FK, singing Meu Nenem. The judges were impressed with how comfortable RT was with Vulgo. RT explained he felt confident because being onstage made him the happiest.
The episode ended with Afrodite rehearsing for her performance. During a confessional, she admitted she feared getting eliminated and missing out on a big opportunity to gain stardom.
