Roller Jam is an exciting new series set to premiere on the Max, alongside a fresh lineup of engaging unscripted family-friendly shows. The highly anticipated television series is scheduled to make its debut on October 8, 2024.
It will be accompanied by two other brand-new series titled Human vs. Hamster (set to premiere on November 21) and Second Chance Stage (set to premiere on November 28). These three shows are being executive produced by Chip and Joanna Gaines of the Magnolia Network for Max.
Roller Jam: What do we know about it?
Roller Jam is USA's first-ever nationwide roller dancing competition. It will showcase the top roller-skating crews from different cities in America competing to win $150,000 and claim the title of 'America's best roller-dancing team.' The winning team will also receive a $10,000 donation for their local rink.
In each episode, the skate teams will create new routines to perform for judges and celebrity guests in front of a live audience. The six-part series will be released over six weeks, starting on October 10 and culminating in the finale on November 14, 2024.
In a statement given to Variety, Chip and Joana Gaines highlighted the nostalgic appeal of Roller Jam and said:
“Putting on a pair of roller skates is like reuniting with your childhood. There’s just something about roller skates that appeals to everyone. Kids, adults, and everyone in between, will have fun watching these talented crews come together and skate their hearts out, and we are so excited to bring this nostalgic competition to life.”
The Contestant Cities
The roller-skating competition series will feature teams hailing from cities across the United States. As per Variety, these cities include Atalanta, Las Vegas, St. Louis, New York City, and Nashville.
The list of contestants or any local rink members participating in the contest has not been revealed to the public yet. It also is unclear how many teams will compete at once and what will be the judging criteria for roller dancing. The time and duration of the competition are yet to be announced by the showmakers.
The Host & Judges
The show will be hosted by Jordin Sparks, a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, best known for winning the sixth season of American Idol.
The contestants will be judged by: Johnny Weir, a two-time U.S. Olympian and national figure skating champion, and Terrell Ferguson, a roller-skating legend. The two in-house judges will be joined by a different celebrity guest judge on each episode.
Further details about the show are yet to be unveiled by either Max or Magnolia Network. Roller Jam is being produced by Nikki Boella, known for helming shows like America's Got Talent and Rhythm + Flow, and Brian Lando, the producer of A Very Brandy Renovation.
The first episode of Roller Jam will air on October 10, with its finale set to be released on November 14, 2024, exclusively on Max.
