Rhythm + Flow season 2 episode 6 was released on November 27 on Netflix. The episode started with the Debut Singles round, where the top seven contestants had to create artwork and present a new finished song in front of the audience.
Detroit Diamond was the first to hit the stage and received praise from all the judges, especially DJ Khalid. Before he could speak, he lifted his lighter, telling the contestant that her performance was impressive.
The judge told her he was locked in on the performance right when the beat dropped in her song. He explained the importance of grabbing the audience with the first 10 seconds of the song, and Detroit Diamond was able to do that.
"Y'all had a real collaboration going, because when you hit them with the… The "LeBron James, the bang, gang…" All the stuff you were saying, like… And it was going… I was like, "Oh sh*t." "She trying to…" "Oh no, she ain't… She ain't playing." But that sh*t fire," the judge added.
Before she left the stage, DJ Khaled approached Detroit Diamond to take a picture, implying she would become a star in the future.
In episode 7, DJ Khaled, Ludacris, and Latto were joined by special guest judge GloRilla as three of the top seven contestants showcased their stage presence.
Rhythm + Flow judge reacts to Detroit Diamond’s performance
Detroit Diamond started the Debut Singles round with her song Pressure. She shook the crowd with her performance, forcing the audience to sing along with her. Judge Ludacris also praised Diamond's performance.
"Let me tell y'all something. There's a demeanor in hip-hop when you hear somebody new, or just in music, that encapsulates that "I'm coming to take what the f**k is mine," and that's what just happened on this damn stage with Detroit Diamond."
Ludacris added that Detroit Diamond connected with everyone watching her through her performance. He also said her song had that unexplained "vibration" and "frequency."
Guest judge GloRilla shared that she enjoyed the entire performance, including the confidence and energy she brought to the stage. She highlighted that Detroit Diamond was "self-aware" and understood what she was representing.
While the Rhythm + Flow special guest judge liked Diamond's demeanor, she wasn't able to hear or relate to her lyrics.
"I don't know if it's because of how fast you was rapping or what, but I wasn't going off that, just going off your beat and energy. Everything was good. I just couldn't hear your lyrics and relate to them," GloRilla said.
Latto began Detroit Diamond's assessment by saying that she made her and Detroit proud. She mentioned that as soon as the beat dropped during her performance she and Khaled looked at each other and were blown away by it.
The Rhythm + Flow judge added that her artwork matched her personality, giving off the feeling that the contestants knew who she was.
"When I look at your artwork, it match. And people don't be knowing, like, who they are. You know who you are. And I've seen you just step it up and step it up and step it up. And I don't know what the f*ck… I'm like, "Well, how much more can she go up?," Latto said.
Detroit Diamond told Lato that she left her song open at the end just so that the Rhythm + Flow judge could put her verse on there.
Rhythm + Flow season 2 episodes 1-7 are available on Netflix.
