Kody, his four Sister Wives Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, and their 18 children try to maintain a functional life as they face the challenges of living in an enormous family.
The show has been a huge hit among the reality TV fans. 1) My Five Wives
After seeing the success of Sister Wives, TCL came up with another reality show based on a polygamist family in 2013. The show follows the lives of Brady Williams, his five spouses, and their 24 children. The family of 30 lives together near Salt Lake City.
Each episode provides a candid look at the controversial lifestyle of the Williams family. The family goes through issues like jealousy and loneliness and tries to maintain a strong bond despite multiple differences.
While the show followed the same concept, it was less popular than Sister Wives and ended after airing two seasons. Viewers can stream both seasons of the reality show on Discovery+.
2) Seeking Sister Wife
Seeking Sister Wife is another TLC reality show similar to Sister Wives. It follows the lives of three different families as they make themselves ready to integrate a new Sister Wife into their current lifestyle.
The synopsis of the show released in 2018 reads:
"Explore the lives of three families all in various phases of seeking, dating or transitioning a new sister wife into their lives. They will date online, date in person and explore the ins and outs of incorporating a new wife into their plural families."
With over five seasons, and the latest one wrapped up in early 2024, the show tries to capture the essence of a polygamous lifestyle. Some couples embraced the lifestyle while others understood that they were happy the way they were. The reality show is available to stream on FuboTV.
3) Three Wives, One Husband
Three Wives, One Husband documents the lives of 14 fundamentalist Mormon families. The families have built a free community in the middle of Utah at Rockland Ranch. At the place, the families are free to follow a polyamorous lifestyle and choose to live the way they want.
Half of the men living in the community are polygamists and have multiple wives. Released in 2017, the four-part series takes an intimate look at the workings of modern polygamous families. It is available to buy on Apple TV and available on Prime Video and Tubi TV in some regions.
4) Escaping Polygamy
While focusing on the polygamy topic, Escaping Polygamy takes a different route. It follows the lives of three sisters Andrea, Jessica, and Shanell who broke through their polyamorous lifestyle and was released in 2014.
In the show, three sisters help other young men, women, and children who are trying to escape their abusive polygamous lifestyle. A&E's Escaping Polygamy is available to stream on Discovery+.
5) Polygamy, USA
Polygamy, USA has a more serious tone than Sister Wives. National Geographic's 6-part series follows the polyamorous life of Cawleys, Hammons, and Thompsons. The Mormon fundamentalists navigate the challenges that come with a polyamorous lifestyle.
The synopsis of the show reads:
"Come along and see how the Polygamists of Centinnial Park live. Join the Thompsons, Hammons, and Cawleys as they each have their ups and downs and share with you how life in a Polygamist situation really is."
Polygamy, USA showcases the dark side and the reality of living with multiple parents. The 6-part series is available to watch on Prime Video.
