Dancing With the Stars alum Alexa PenaVega recently reflected on competing against her husband Carlos on the show. While she enjoyed having him there, she admitted it brought some challenges along the way.
During her appearance on Cheryl Burke's November 4 episode of the Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast, Alexa revealed there was tension between Carlos and season 21 judge Julianne Hough during their stint on DWTS,
The alum shared that it was hard for Carlos to be judged by Julianne while the two of them were on the show.
"I will say what was really hard for Carlos was, you know, he's being judged by Jules the whole time while he's on the show. But then he has to go work with her right after. And he was like, this is so weird because she won't even say hi," Alexa shared.
Dancing With the Stars alum Alexa PenaVega and Carlos have no resentment toward Julianne Hough
Alexa PenaVega and her husband, Carlos PenaVega, competed in Dancing with the Stars Season 21, paired with professional dancers Mark Ballas and Witney Carson, respectively. The judging panel for that season included Julianne Hough, who joined longtime judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
At the time, Carlos and Julianne were not only part of Dancing with the Stars but also co-stars on Grease Live! Alexa shared that after their time on the dancing show, they had to work closely together on Grease Live! where Carlos portrayed Kenickie.
Alexa shared that her husband felt "super weird" as Julianne wasn't even greeting him on the DWTS. He was confused about the dynamic between them but chose to remain "nice" regardless.
"Carlos had to go work with Jules right after Dancing with the Stars on Grease Live because he played Kenickie. So, literally, he's like, 'She's not saying hi, this is super weird. I don't know the dynamic, but I'm just gonna be nice,'" Alexa said.
While The Dancing With the Stars alum and her husband felt that Julianne's behavior toward them was unexpected, she expressed that they do not hold any grudge or resentment toward her. She believed that Julianne was likely focused on her judging responsibilities and didn’t have the chance to interact with them.
"I'm sure it's just a judge thing. She wasn't mean or anything, she just couldn't interact with us at all," the reality star shared.
Alexa PenaVega addresses Carlos' jealousy concerns
During her appearance on the Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast, Alexa also opened up about Carlos’s concerns over jealousy while she was paired with pro-Mark Ballas on Dancing with the Stars Season 21.
The reality star shared that during their DWTS stint, her husband was "such a jealous man" and even though he understood the reality show dynamic, it was still hard for him.
"I love Mark. I absolutely, we got along great. But, if it was ever flirty, I'd just be like, 'Don't do that'. I was kinda a little mean, but it was only to set good boundaries. Then we figured it out and we ended up having a really great partnership," Alexa added.
The alum shared that when the couple went on the reality show they told their dancing partners that they were "a married couple" and while they were "excited to team up" with them, that didn't mean they would ditch their marriage.
"If I could go back, it doesn't even matter. It just should be fun. You should just go out there and have fun," Alexa concluded.
Dancing with the Stars season 33 airs every Tuesday on ABC.
