The former child actress noted that it was "very different" from the things she had done before. Christy mentioned that she was committed and excited for the show, expecting it to be more of an adventure than it turned out to be.
"You know, it was a strange reality show experience, it was both things." she said, describing her experience.
She added that her husband was a Marine veteran, so she had some help training for the reality show. Christy recalled telling her husband telling her that they were going to train her the best that they could after she mentioned not being physically fit to do it.
She explained how he told her that the most important thing for her to remember was that her mental state was more important than her physical state. Christy said that her husband told her that he believed that she would mentally "knock it out of the park."

Special Forces: World's Toughest Test contestant, Christy Carlson Romano told First for Women how she prepared for the show and her motivation behind joining it. Discussing how she worked to get into shape for the show, Christy said that her husband took on the role of a Drill Sergeant. She also mimicked how he would yell at her, as per her request, and explained that this was something she specifically asked him to do.
He served as her trainer and constantly reminded her that she would have to work hard if she wished to excel on the show. She recalled how there were a few "really late nights" when she "still [had to] be a mom" and take her children to school or put them to bed. Christy noted that despite that, she continued her training by working out after the kids were asleep and would be up until 1 am or so.
The Special Forces: World's Toughest Test contestant noted that it was really important to her that she got multiple workouts a day. She added that one of her routines included trekking the hills of Austin, Texas while wearing weighted bags.
Another aspect of her training involved swimming fully clothed, as she explained that her season of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test was heavily focused on water-based challenges. She recalled that she swam every day in order to train for the competition.
"I treaded water with my combat boots, my full clothing, and I made it up to about 10 minutes of treading water with my clothes on. So, I was ready, as mentally and as physically fit as I could be by the three weeks," she added.

Christy expressed her belief noting that anyone who chose to participate in the show is a bit crazy and wild, and, she holds immense respect for the participants.
