Sister Wives season 19 premiered on September 15, 2024, the new season gave an update on what the Browns have been up to since the last season aired. The main highlight of this episode was how the family tragedy of Garrison's passing was addressed. Back in March, Janelle Brown and Kody Brown's son Garrison was found dead in Arizona.

The Sister Wives cast members took to their Instagram accounts to release a joint statement about their son's passing. The police department revealed the death cause as suicide which was a "shock" to the Brown family.

In an interview with People on September 11, 2024, Janelle Brown shared that there was no "indication" of Garrison's mental health struggles. Janelle mentioned that her son was planning for his future, would talk to them regularly, and adopted a cat. They always had "open conversations" which is why they never expected something like this to happen. Janelle said:

"We actually were having conversations. He had all the resources that he could have needed. This was just such a shock. We just never expected this."

The Sister Wives reality TV star emphasized that more people should be talking about men's mental health and there should be open conversations around this topic. She further shared that Garrison was excited about his career and often met his friends and family so she "had no idea" about his mental struggle. Janelle said:

"We just had no idea that he was in that place. But he didn't ever express any kind of extreme sad feelings. In fact, he was very funny, very upbeat. He had a career path that he was excited about. He had a life, he had friends."

She continued that Garrison wasn't isolating or distancing himself from his loved ones instead he appeared excited and hung out with his friends and family. The Brown family is still processing Garrison's death according to Janelle. Since his passing, the Sister Wives star intentionally brings up conversations surrounding mental health with her family. They also practice weekly check-ins, she stated:

"I really actually had sort of thought like, 'Okay, maybe he's finally starting to get his momentum.' It's hard in your twenties to find your path. And I was really excited, so it was such a shock... because there was just no indication at all."

Janelle opened up about her feelings mentioning that a "grief trap" can make people doubt themselves and whether they were there enough for loved ones. Janelle said Garrison was surrounded by love and support, he didn't have a "lack of anything." At first, they thought they might have done something to prevent this outcome, but Janelle shared she accepted that they did "everything they could have done."

"I think that's a grief trap because I think, ultimately, everybody is responsible for their own actions and their own decisions. But we did everything. We really did everything that we could have done. And unfortunately, sometimes [that] still isn't enough."

The upcoming episodes will further showcase how the Brown family is coping with Garrison's death.
