The islanders were divided by gender and lived in different villas with new singles, aiming to form connections with them.

Sydney Leighton was one such islander who was eliminated from the show since she wasn't able to establish a connection with one of the male islanders. She recently appeared on The Challenge star, Johnny Bananas' podcast, Death, Taxes, and Bananas, where she opened up about her time on the show.

As they discussed the events of Casa Amor, Johnny Bananas referred to the connections made on the show as "trauma bonding." He said that he couldn't "necessarily relate" to what the Love Island USA contestants went through but noted that he could relate to the idea of "trauma bonding."

"I can't necessarily relate to what you guys go through on Love Island, but what I can relate to is — and I talked about this on Aftersun the other night — this whole idea of 'trauma bonding'," Bananas added.

Interrupting Bananas, Sydney said:

"It's like Stockholm Syndrome."

Johnny noted that it was essentially like "falling in love" with captors, a psychological condition where kidnapping or abduction victims empathize with their captors.

While discussing Love Island USA during an episode of Death, Taxes, and Bananas, reality star Sydney Leighton spoke about her relationships with the cast members. The Challenge star Johnny Bananas said that the equations on the show were similar to trauma bonds. He explained that the three weeks they spent filming were equivalent to going on 50 to 100 dates in real life.

"So you get past that whole, like, honeymoon phase, like, very fast, and then this, like, relationship and these feelings, like develop at like, at fever pace," Bananas said.

Agreeing with Johnny Bananas and adding to what he said, the Love Island USA star opened up about the female friendships she had formed on the show. She said that while all of them entered the villa as strangers, they were "sobbing their eyes out" after Sydney was eliminated. She noted that this was despite the cast members being together only during the time they spent at Casa Amor.

"I was crying, I literally told, like, my family. "I go, you're not gonna watch me cry on this f*cking show." I'm like, "It's not happening." And I fully like, sobbed my eyes out," the bombshell added.

The islander added that since they were together all the time, it was "overstimulating" to be sent home. She further compared her experience to a "little bubble" and said she wanted to be there again.

Talking about the male islanders, Sydney slammed their behavior in Casa Amor and said "Aaron's like 27" and Miguel was a "f*ck boy." She also discussed the backlash Aaron and Kordell received during and after Casa Amor.

At that time, Johnny Bananas chimed in and said that everyone was being very "critical of Kordell and Aaron" and that they were "flaming these two guys." However, he did add that he wasn't "excusing their behavior in the least."

"Everyone's being so critical of Kordell and Aaron, especially. Everyone is flaming these two guys. But I'm like, all right, for two reasons — And I'm not excusing their behavior in the least, but you have to look at this like, it's the equivalent of giving a 15-year-old kid the keys to a Lamborghini and be like, 'drive slow'," Johnny said.

Sydney agreed that the Love Island USA cast members were not going to go slow. The Challenge star then compared Casa Amor to Temptation Island and said that the male islanders were surrounded by women who understood the "assignment."

Speaking about the Love Island USA bombshells, he added that the women also wanted to stay in the game. He said that the only way for them to do so was to "establish a relationship" with the male islanders and hope they brought them back to the villa.
