Roxanne Kaiser and Antonio Mattei, known for being a part of Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, recently got married in a "modern and fresh" Persian ceremony. The couple’s relationship on the show was known for being complicated.
They went through intense moments of doubt, honest conversations, and public scrutiny as they tried to figure out what commitment meant to each of them. During the show, Roxanne was criticized for being honest, which was seen as "pushing" Antonio towards her idea of shared responsibility, especially regarding money.
Roxanne said,
"I received a lot of criticism for it, with people saying, Roxanne, you’re pushing him too hard, or you’re making him do something he doesn’t want to."
Roxanne stood by her approach, even though it had received mixed reactions in The Ultimatum. She said that Antonio’s growth as a business owner and their commitment to each other proved that the steps they took were the right ones.
A blend of modern and traditional elements in The Ultimatum's couple wedding
At the Chateau Elan near Atlanta, Roxanne and Antonio’s wedding was a beautiful blend of American and Persian wedding traditions. They had a short ceremony in the American style, followed by a traditional Persian Sofreh Aghd to honor Roxanne’s heritage. Roxanne talked about how much she loved the deep meanings of the Persian wedding.
For example, the rock candy on the Sofreh Aghd stood for a sweet life, and the mirror for light and clarity. Each piece held meaning for their new life together.
As part of a symbolic ritual, the couple dipped their pinky fingers in honey and shared it, symbolizing their future being sweet.
Roxanne said,
"It will be an intimate gathering set among the vines under the stars as the sun sets."
Nearly 150 guests attended, including notable reality stars like Kelly Chase from Love is Blind and Mal Wright from The Ultimatum: Queer Love. However, Roxanne and Antonio opted not to invite any cast members from their season, citing a "stressful" reunion experience of The Ultimatum that led them to drift apart from their castmates.
Reflections on criticism and personal growth post The Ultimatum
During their time on The Ultimatum, Roxanne’s proactive approach to relationship dynamics, especially her insistence that they both pay their own bills, drew mixed reactions.
She admitted that many people thought she was "pushing him too hard," some even suggested she was trying to change Antonio into someone he didn’t want to be.
Roxanne discussed Antonio’s accomplishments since filming, including his success as a business owner with a thriving Tint World franchise. Antonio said,
"Marriage means two people making a lifelong commitment to never leave each other behind, no matter how hard things get. No matter what, we will always be honest with each other and push one another to always do the right thing."
He continued, saying that they would push each other to become the kind of person their future children could look up to and support one another when the path ahead wasn’t entirely clear.
He added that this commitment meant having faith in something greater than oneself, which, alongside Roxanne, had given him the freedom to shape a new identity, one he would have admired as a child.
