Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary advises young couples to get married early

In the Instagram clip from Kevin's interview on Fox Business News, the Shark Tank star advised the youth to get married early and not to worry about the expenses that come from a family expansion. The September 20, 2024, Instagram reel was captioned as:

"Take my advice. Get married sooner and have more kids. Family is everything! That’s what it’s all about. Do you agree?"

The Shark Tank judge continued by stating the reason behind his advice. He shared that he wanted "more time with his kids" when he was younger. This is why Kevin recommended the younger generation not to wait to start a family for long. O’Leary also mentioned that they should "get married sooner; have more kids." He elaborated:

"I wish I'd had my kids 10 years earlier. Family is everything; that's what it's all about. Forget about money when it comes to kids — find somebody you really like that you can live with for the rest of your life."

In the same interview, Kevin discouraged married couples from combining their finances. Kevin explained that a healthy relationship depends on financial stability and a separate credit score. According to the Shark Tank star, couples get divorced mostly due to "financial stress" while struggling to keep their financial records stable.

In case of a split between the couple, the process of separating the joint accounts is a difficult one. Kevin stated that "merging finances" is never a good decision, he said:

"What I tell everybody to do in a relationship is: Have your own account, your own credit card — never merge your finances together. So many marriages dissolve, not because of infidelity, but because of financial stress. I don't care how in love you are, you keep your account to yourself."

Kevin highlighted the importance of having a separate "financial identity" and having a separate credit card record, he continued:

"After you get divorced, if you have been merged in with your significant other, you're a nobody in our system. You have to have your own credit track record. If you don't have your own financial identity, you're in the wilderness in America."
