Sister Wives season 19 episode 15, titled Faith Can Move Mountains, premiered on TLC on December 28. The episode revisited the pivotal moment when Meri divorced Kody, allowing him to legally marry Robyn and reshaping the family dynamics.
In the recent episode, Kody Brown's ex-wife Christine claimed that when Robyn first came into the Brown family, she started talking to them about other families where the "first wife divorced the husband so he could marry the second wife legally," which also allowed him to legally adopt the second wife's kids.
At that moment, Christine felt that Robyn was trying to plant the idea in Meri's mind, hoping that she would do the same for her.
“That’s a plant,” Christine described.
The Sister Wives star further claimed that Robyn mentioned this idea several times over the years. Christine mentioned that Robyn constantly talked about it "because she would have loved that to happen."
“I don’t think Meri felt like it was planted. I think Meri felt like it was her own idea,” she added.
"An absolute lie. I never said it"— Sister Wives star Robyn denies Christine's allegations
Meri, Kody's first wife, married him in 1990. In 2010, Kody began dating Robyn, who had three children from a previous marriage. Kody wished to adopt Robyn's children, but to do so, he needed to marry her. In 2014, Meri divorced Kody, paving the way for him to marry Robyn and legally adopt her kids.
Sister Wives season 19 episode 15 revisited this incident, and the cast offered their perspectives on the matter. While Christine claimed that Robyn influenced Meri's decision to divorce Kody, Robyn denied this and called it a lie.
“The idea that I, like, planted an idea in Meri’s head is an absolute lie. I never said it. I don’t even know anyone who divorced their first wife so that the second wife could adopt kids. I’ve never even heard of that before,” Robyn claimed.
Later in the episode, the Sister Wives star expressed that she felt like she was gaslit by some of her family members and that her actions were misconstrued. Considering her previous marriage, Robyn insisted that she never intended to legally marry Kody. She claimed it was Meri's idea, and she had discussed it with Kody.
“[Meri] had had the idea in her head to offer to give me the legal marriage so that Kody could adopt my kids. I never even wanted to be legally married to Kody,” she said.
The Sister Wives star further added that she was “really grateful” not to be legally married to Kody, as she had a bad experience and had gone through “so much trauma" during her previous divorce.
“I was very happy and content with my spiritual marriage. I didn’t need anything else,” she added.
Meanwhile, Janelle chimed in, saying she was "sort of speechless" when Meri told them that she was actually going through with the plan because she thought Meri would never do it. She added that she had already started to see that "there was a little bit of favoritism for Robyn from Kody at that point," which worried her.
Later in the episode, Meri recalled that it was her decision to divorce Kody. However, she added that she had “a lot of heartache” and felt a lack of emotional support from her fellow cast members.
“I had the logical part of me saying, ‘No, you still have the spiritual side of the marriage.’ It felt emotionally like I was getting rid of, like, the whole marriage. It was so hard. And I had to tell myself all the time, ‘No, it’s not. We still have that spiritual marriage,’” the Sister Wives star added.
Sister Wives season 19 episodes air every Sunday on TLC.
