Meredith Marks hosted her Bat Mitzvah in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 episode 13, inviting most of her fellow cast mates. Angie Katsanevas decided to show up with a fancy Kérastase shampoo as a gift, which Meredith felt was rude.
Bronwyn Newport reacted to the shampoo bottle's label, which read "dry, damaged hair," feeling that the gift was backhanded. In the after-show, she explained her feelings, describing the shampoo as a "shady gift."
"Is that what the bottle said? Oh God. OK, well, that's shady," Bronwyn said in the RHOSLC after-show.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 episode 13 premiered on December 11 on Bravo. Aside from the Angie-Meredith drama, the episode, Rooms for Improvement, showcased a falling out between Bronwyn and Lisa over room assignments. Meanwhile, Mary chose to stay in Salt Lake City as issues with Robert Jr. came to a head.
"I didn't say she looked dry and damaged" - The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Angie clears her intentions behind her gift for Meredith
In The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 episode 13, Angie Katsanevas gave Meredith Marks a Kérastase shampoo as a gift for her Bat Mitzvah. However, Meredith found the gesture rather rude, as the bottle specified it was for dry and "damaged hair," which she interpreted as an unintended insult.
The RHOSLC cast reacted to the gift in the after-show of the episode. Bronwyn felt that the shampoo was "indeed backhanded" and called it a "shady gift." Meanwhile, Whitney Rose claimed that "dry, damaged hair" was mentioned on all Kérastase products.
In the after-show, Angie clarified the gift wasn't intended to be a jab at Meredith. She claimed she didn't even know the "damaged hair" was mentioned on two $100 bottles of product she bought.
"I mean, that's hilarious. And actually that would've been some good shade, and I wish I was that funny. But it was actually not intentional. Any time you color your hair, as a beauty expert in the beauty industry for 30 years, you want a product that is for dry and damaged hair. I didn't say she looked dry and damaged," she clarified.
Whitney shared that she always received haircare products from Angie to help keep her blonde hair healthy and care for her split ends. Mary Cosby, sitting with Angie, echoed the same about her fellow The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast mate and added that she had the same shampoo Meredith was upset about.
Bronwyn speculated that she might also have "dry and damaged hair," as Angie gave her the same gift. She explained that Angie, being a professional hairstylist, might have felt Meredith needed some extra attention.
"I guess I have dry and damaged hair, too. Angie's given me shampoo," Bronwyn added. "Sometimes the truth hurts. Angie's a professional, maybe Meredith did need some extra... I don't know." Bronwyn said.
However, Meredith believed the gift wasn't "thoughtful" as she couldn't use it. She explained that she had keratin in her hair and would have been great if she had been given a "sulfate-free shampoo."
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star further added that she didn't care what Angie thought of her hair.
"If this is her big deal gift that she's crying about, then keep it. It's fine. Leave me alone on the gifts. I don't care about that. I don't hold nice things that I do for people over their head, either. If I do something with kindness, it's because my intent is out of kindness. Not to see what I can get in return. It's not tit for tat. I don't operate that way," she continued.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 5 episodes air every Wednesday on Bravo.
