What happened on The Bachelorette season 21 episode 9?

The ninth episode of The Bachelorette, which aired on ABC on August 27, 2024, was filled with a mix of emotional and dramatic moments. The episode provided an opportunity for the previously eliminated contestants to return and comment on the significant events and drama that had unfolded on the show.

Jesse directed the conversation to where the last episode ended and showed Devin walking to Jenn's room. Devin visited Jenn to confess his feelings and also to confront Jenn about her feelings towards him.

He expressed to Jenn that he had been feeling insecure and did not feel the same emotions from Jenn's side. He told Jenn:

"I’m just in a weird headspace with my feelings. I haven’t been the priority in so many of my relationships… I feel like I’m the safe option for you because I am the way I am. I feel like I’m wanted here but I don’t feel like I’m needed here, and that scares me."

He further said:

"I risked everything for you. My feelings, my sanity. I want to get to the end, but I don’t know how to get there with you right now — that’s not for lack of feelings. I love you…"

Jenn validated his feelings by saying, 'I love you too,' and even apologized for not reassuring him in their relationship. She replied:

"I don’t know how to be in a healthy relationship. I want to do that for you… I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t here.”

After this discussion, it was predictable that Jonathon was the one to not make it to the final two. As a result, Jonathon gracefully bid goodbye and held himself accountable for not being able to form a stronger bond with Jenn in The Bachelorette.

Another highlight of the episode was Sam getting lashed out by Jenn. Jenn told Sam that after watching the show she realized that his behavior was not amicable with fellow men. She also said that he is too self-centered and after the radio group date, she realized that Sam knew nothing about her. She told Sam:

"I watched this back and saw how you interacted with all these men, huffing and puffing your chest everywhere… On top of that, with our relationship, everything was about you.”

Jenn also called out Sam and his family for being irresponsible. Their posts on social media pointed fingers at editing and the producers for how Sam appeared on the show, The Bachelorette. Sam iterated that he was focusing on growth and would like to go and change things if he could.

Jonathon and Hakeem each receive invitations to join the cast of the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise before the night comes to a close, marking the end of an eventful evening.

The finale of The Bachelorette season 21 will air on September 3, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Fans can tune in to ABC to know who will Jenn choose between Devin and Marcus.
