The Boyfriend episode 9: Dai asks Shun not to take him for "granted"

The Boyfriend season 1 aired episodes 9 and 10 on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. During the segment, Dai and Shun, whose turbulent relationship has been one of the most talked about aspects of the show, were at odds again. Although the two returned from their overnight date happy and having shared a kiss, there was tension when they returned to the Green Room.

While the cast tried to get the couple to talk, Dai didn't want to discuss their issues in front of everyone. However, he approached Shun separately and opened up about how his distant and cold behavior made him feel.

When Dai asked what was bothering him, Shun asked why he wanted to know now. The former said he had been wanting to know "all day." Dai guessed that Shun was upset with him since he didn't wear the T-shirt the latter gave him.

"Look, I don't want you to take for granted that I'll always come running to you whenever something happens. I've thought about it a lot," Dai said.

Dai and Shun have a heartfelt conversation in The Boyfriend episode 9

In The Boyfriend season 1 episode 9, Dai approached Shun to talk about what was bothering the cast member after they returned to the Green Room. As the discussion progressed, Dai explained to Shun that he shouldn't take him for granted. Dai guessed Shun was upset because he didn't wear the T-shirt Shun gave him.

The Boyfriend season 1 cast member explained it wasn't just about the T-shirt and reminded Dai about his ex-boyfriend whom Shun loved until recently. He added that he had been comparing Dai to him and recalled the ex-boyfriend "always wearing" his T-shirts. Shun said it was one of the ways he showed Shun his love.

"You're more sensitive than I realized. This was a good opportunity for me to remember you're a delicate person. Since this is hard for you, I'm willing to work through it with you," Dai said.

The Boyfriend cast member added that he understood Shun compared him to his ex. He added that if the latter was willing to "let go of the things" they shared while on the show so easily, Dai would be "really sad" about it. He added that there was one thing he was sure of.

"I never want to let go of them. So if we can get through this together, I think we'll be able to move forward," Dai added.

Shun questioned what would happen if something similar happened again. He wondered whether they would have the same conversation again if he were to tell Dai he didn't want to talk to him. Dai said he didn't think so and added that he was confident he wouldn't let him do this again. Shun got emotional about the conversation while Dai thanked him for opening up to him.

The following day, the two worked on the Coffee Truck together, and during the shift, they spoke about how they had changed since they came on The Boyfriend. Shun said his values had become more "inclusive." He added that he used to make judgments about people, including deciding to be with them based on how they looked.

Later in the episode, the cast went out for their last dinner of the series, recalled their journey on the Netflix show, and celebrated the friendships they made.

As they started leaving, the cast members had emotional goodbyes. However, Shun wanted to talk to Dai alone before the show wrapped up and pulled him aside for a conversation. During their last conversation on the show, Shun confessed his feelings to Dai, and the latter did the same.
