One of the longest-running reality TV shows, The Challenge released episode 10 of its 40th season on October 24 at 8 pm ET/PT on MTV and Paramount+.

Tonight's episode saw team battles morph into individual ones while the targets were Rachel (Era 1), Aviv (Era 2) and Jenny (Era 4) for the women and Derek (Era 2), Ryan (Era 2) and Johnny Bananas (Era 2) for the men. TJ Lavin returns as the host of the show which promises the winner a prize money of $1 million.

Last time around, Derrick and Averey departed the challenge during gladiator week as alliances flipped mid-game. 18 players remain in the competition with Era 1 left with just one challenger on The Challenge 40.

The official synopsis of episode 10 reads:

"The game takes a huge turn as the Challengers must now work as individuals to claim victory, while still repping their era; a hot and grueling challenge has one person seeing double and another wishing they could use it as an ex."

What happened in The Challenge 40 episode 10?

After last week's elimination round win, Tori said that she felt a fire inside of her after Devin and Kaycee went home. Rachel and Jenny discuss them being targets as well with Rachel not surprised by the events.

Jordan chatted with Michele and Olivia and expressed his desire to eliminate Bananas so that the latter doesn't gain any momentum.

The challengers arrived at the challenge area the next day as TJ revealed that a flip of a coin would decide who would be eliminated, men or women. As the results revealed that men will go head-to-head in elimination, the losing woman challenger would suffer a penalty in next week’s challenge.

The challenge for the week was "Fire Away", in which contestants would have to gather some balls, fill the cylinder with their name, and solve a puzzle to win.

During the competition, Bananas got off to a wrong start as he accidentally put two balls in Jordan’s cylinder while TJ told him, the balls couldn't be retrieved.

Ultimately, Jordan won from the men and Tori won from the women. The two winners would decide who will be facing the losers in the elimination round. From the men, Ryan put his puzzle opposite which earned him the last place.

Due to the exhausting heat, the competition for women turned high-stakes as Michele went numb and required a medic. She eventually completed the round but was placed last.

After the competition, the competitors gathered at the house where Jordan and Tori decided to put Bananas into the arena against Ryan. Later, Rachel and Tori formed an alliance after coming to an understanding that they were the strongest competitors left in the show.

Rachel makes a pact with Jordan as well while Tori teams up with almost everyone who was in favor of putting Bananas in the elimination.

The elimination round was dubbed as "Killer Quads” in which contestants would have to drive quads around a track. Starting on opposite sides, the challengers would try and catch their opponent on the track in order to snag their ribbon.

Whoever would succeed in doing so two times first would win the elimination round and would be safe while the opponent would leave the competition.

Bananas managed to edge out Ryan and won two consecutive bouts resulting in Ryan being eliminated. TJ revealed that Bananas could name three women as targets except Tori who won the daily challenge.

Bananas was not happy with that rule as Tori laughed and shouted, “Kiss my a*s!”

Bananas went on to nominate Nia, Olivia, and Michele as targets.
