The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras is well underway, bringing back veteran contestants from different eras of the long-running series. The show, which has spanned 39 seasons over 26 years, features a mix of physical and mental challenges where contestants compete for a share of a $1 million prize. For this season, 40 players are divided into four teams, each representing a different era of The Challenge.
In episode 4, Aneesa Ferreira and Horacio Gutiérrez were eliminated. Aneesa, who has been a participant in multiple eras, was sent home after losing in an elimination round against Jenny West. Similarly, Horacio, a newer contestant, lost in a close elimination round against Derrick Kosinski, marking his exit from the competition.
The Challenge 40 eliminations in episode 4
Aneesa Ferreira’s elimination
Aneesa Ferreira, a veteran on The Challenge season 40, entered without her usual allies, who were spread across different teams. This made her a target for elimination, and after Darrell Taylor pushed for it, she was sent into the challenge arena and eliminated.
Aneesa faced off against Jenny West in the elimination round. Despite her extensive experience on the show, she was unable to secure a win and was sent home. Reflecting on her elimination, Aneesa said,
“I’ve been here before, and I know how tough this game is. I fought hard, but it just wasn’t my day.”
Horacio Gutiérrez’s elimination
Horacio Gutiérrez entered The Challenge 40 as a new competitor. He began the season with high hopes, but was hampered by his girlfriend, Nurys's, early elimination during the "Era Invitational." This incident appeared to hinder his attention, but he continued to compete in challenges.
Horacio’s team, Era 4, performed poorly in the trivia challenge, resulting in his nomination for elimination. He selected Derrick Kosinski from Era 1 as his opponent. The elimination round was close, with both contestants performing well, but Derrick edged out a win, leading to Horacio's departure. Horacio commented,
“I gave it everything I had. This season was tough, especially after Nurys left, but I have no regrets about how I played.”
The daily challenge: trivia edition
Episode 4’s daily challenge was a trivia-based competition. Contestants were asked questions about past seasons of The Challenge while suspended over water. The team with the highest score was declared the winner, adding an extra layer of mental challenge to the usual physical tasks.
The trivia challenge ended with a tie between Era 2 and Era 3. In a sudden-death tiebreaker, Laurel Stucky faced Jordan Wiseley, with Laurel winning and securing the victory for Era 2. Laurel stated,
“It feels great to win for my team. Trivia is always unpredictable, but we came through in the end.”
Targets for next week
At the conclusion of the episode, several contestants were named as targets for elimination in the next round. Each era now faces the possibility of losing key members in the upcoming episode. The targets for next week are as follows:
- Era 1: Chris "CT" Tamburello & Tina Barta
- Era 2: Nehemiah Clark & Emily Schromm
- Era 3: Devin Walker & Tori Deal
- Era 4: Kyland Young & Olivia Kaiser
These contestants will need to rely on their performance in the next challenges to avoid elimination. The competition remains intense, and each week brings new twists and outcomes.
