The Challenge, originally titled Road Rules: All Stars, premiered for the first time on April 20, 1998, on MTV. Airing for 26 years, this is one of the longest-running shows on television. Every season comes up with a different theme and twists. The show has also come up with many spin-off. It released its 40th season on August 14, 2024, named The Challenge 40: Battle of Eras, with TJ Lavin as its host.

The series has seen many rivalries and friendships over the years. Laurel Stucky and Cara Maria Sorbello is one such pair, whose feud goes back to season 19, Fresh Meat II in 2010. Both were on the same team and were new to the show. They have participated in the multiple seasons since then, but their rivalry has remained constant.

Laurel and Cara are also part of The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, Era 2 group.

Laurel Stucky and Cara Maria Sorbello's relationship in The Challenge

Cara and Laurel hit it off on the wrong foot since their very first interaction on The Challenge: Fresh Meat II, as Laurel won the first daily challenge and sent Cara and her partner to exile.

Cara and her partner lost the task in exile and were eliminated from the show. For the next season of The Challenge: Cutthroat, they were put on the same team despite the bitterness between them.

As competitors, both have been fierce since the beginning and also have been strong challengers. They were a natural choice for the season 21 Rivals, where two rivals were put together to compete.

Cara and Laurel managed to put their apprehensions aside and work together to secure second place in the show. The two, for a brief moment, even experienced a flair of friendship between them. Laurel said in the confessional during season 21:

"Cara’s like my annoying little sister. She’s just there constantly annoying me…but when it comes down to it, we’re there for each other, so I’m happy to have her.”

Season 25 of the show pitted both the challengers against each other once again. The last time they were together on the show, it was more cordial. But this season saw another wave of animosity between the two.

They were played against each other in an elimination round just a few episodes before the finale. Cara was injured during that time, and could not give her best as the challenge required them to make the climbing holes in the drywall to scale the wall.

Laurel won the task and sent Cara home once again. She also won the season and became the first female challenger to win the show.

In 2017, during the Invasion of Champions, surprisingly, Cara and Laurel seemed to have amicable relations. However, after the show, both confirmed that they were not friends.

"She was really into getting followers and getting fame which is not, like, one of my priorities. I don’t know who Cara Maria is. I don’t think Cara Maria knows who Cara Maria is," Laurel shared with The Challenge producers.

Season 34, War of the Worlds II, aired in 2019 and welcomed Cara and Laurel once again. This season proved to be a redemption for Cara, as she defeated Laurel and got her bags packed during the elimination task in episode 4. Cara said in the confessional:

"I’ve gotten the revenge that I needed to get. Everything from my past, like, I’m done. Out the door. Goodbye."

The Challenge: All Stars 4 aired on MTV on April 10, 2024. The season witnessed an unexpected friendship between Cara and Laurel for a brief period as Laurel confided in Cara about her problems with Nicole.

But eventually, they both parted ways as Laurel felt Cara thought she was better than anyone else in the show.

Laurel said:

"There is really only one person in this house that thinks they're better than everyone else, and it's Cara."

As of now, Cara and Laurel are both in The Challenge 40: Battle of Eras. The show has released only one episode so far on August 14, 2024. But the elimination task in the episode brought Cara and Laurel face to face again, and the hint of rivalry was visible during the 'Light it Up' task.

To catch up on the journey of Cara Maria and Laurel Stucky, tune into MTV to watch The Challenge 40: Battle of Eras on August 21, 2024, at 8 pm ET/PT.
