The Circle season 7: What is a disruptor mode?

In season 7 of The Circle, contestants portrayed either themselves or a fictional persona (catfish). This Netflix reality TV series is a social media game in which cast members must form alliances to avoid being 'blocked.' Players must use strategy and increase liability to reach the finale and receive the total grand prize. Contestants who receive the most votes are given the top influencer title. With this power, they can block any player and eliminate them from the game.

A new power called "disruptor mode" was introduced this season. Players are asked if they want to become the Disruptor when the question appears on the screen. If they say 'yes,' they activate the power. However, they don’t know whether it will work to their advantage or disadvantage.

In the first four episodes, the disruptor mode was activated thrice by cast members Nicky and Jojo (playing as Gianna), Kevin and Madelyn, and Deb (playing as Rachel).

In an article on September 4, 2024, Tudum by Netflix mentioned a new twist for the participating contestants. The article hinted at a new power called "disruptor mode" that would be granted to the contestants.

"Hosted by comedian and Survival of the Thickest star Michelle Buteau, the ultimate game of social media and strategy returns for Season 7 this fall. And, if you thought that AI twist last season was shocking, just wait until you see what’s in store this time around."

Contestants who have been disruptors on The Circle season 7 so far

In season 7 of The Circle, twins Nicky and Jojo (playing as Gianna) quickly chose the disruptor mode. Luckily, the power worked in their favor and saved them from elimination. Meanwhile, Heather (playing as Andy) and Savannah were declared the top influencers. They both decided to block Gianna.

This power was a huge advantage for disruptors Nicky and Jojo, giving them a second chance in the competition. The next player to select the disruptor mode on The Circle was Kevin, who had the power to choose two players and invite them to the welcome party for newbies Garret and Madelyn.

The third time, in episode 4, two disruptors were selected. Madelyn and Rachel were asked to switch profiles and continue playing as each other in the game "until next blocking." Fans are unsure whether this swap might work in both of their favors or not. Madelyn regretted selecting disruptor mode as she didn't know how to play as a catfish. The Circle season 7 cast member told the cameras:

"I don't wanna just sit back and be lame and not take any risk, because it could be good. I don't wanna be Rachel. Rachel seems boring. I know nothing about Rachel. there's a reason why I didn't play as a catfish.
