The Traitors star Alan Cumming won an Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program during the 2024 Emmy Awards. The Creative Arts Emmy ceremony event took place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Los Angeles.
Nominated for the Best Show Host award in the same category alongside Alan and RuPaul Charles were well-known names such as Jeff Probst from Survivor, Top Chef host Kristen Kish and Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Robert Herjavec, Lori Greiner, Daymond John & Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank.
As fans already know RuPaul Charles from RuPaul's Drag Race has been winning the Emmy award for best show host since 2016. Up until 2023, RuPaul took home the trophy amongst a total of eight simultaneous wins. For the first time, Alan broke RuPaul's record and won the award for his show The Traitors, however, Cumming wasn’t in attendance at this year’s ceremony,

The Traitors had also been nominated in other categories such as competition program, directing, and cinematography. Cunning isn't a traditional reality TV show host of the mystery competition series. Instead, he plays a character and banishes contestants or declares his command in a "James Bond villa style."
In a conversation with Gold Derby on May 24, 2024, The Traitors host described the reality TV competition series as a different one due to its "dramatic, theatrical flair." He described himself as:
“I think I’m sort of this James Bond villain-style, Highland-layered dandy in this castle, bringing all of these people into this lair. It’s kind of a Pied Piper sort of role — you have to let them follow you into this weird Neverland that is ‘The Traitors.'”
Alan also explained how he brought his character to life and "invented the whole wardrobe thing” to bring uniqueness to the American version of the show. He was "excited" to bring a few changes even though it was a new step in his career. Alan continued:
“I couldn’t understand why they wanted me to do it actually. It does seem a little left field if you look at the rest of my career. But I met with the Studio Lambert people, and they were so lovely, and I really got excited about their vision for the American version of the show to have more of a dramatic, theatrical flair to it.”
As per the show's format, the participating contestants are divided into two groups the Faithfuls and the Traitors. The major twist in this show is that the Traitors' identities are concealed and the Faithfuls have to figure out who they are. Season 3 of the hit Peacock show was released back in June, up until now there has been no information released linked to the new cast of season 4. However, the show has been renewed for seasons 4 and 5.
The previous two nights September 7 and September 8 have already revealed the winners. Primetime Emmys broadcast is still to be showcased so don't forget to stream the 2024 Creative Emmy Awards exclusively on ABC Sunday, September 15, 2024. The show has been nominated for the Best Competition Program as well, whether the show wins an award again will be disclosed next week.
