The Golden Bachelorette episode 7 premiered on October 30 on ABC and featured the fantasy suite week. Joan Voss was down to her top three suitors and was close to her engagement.
Throughout her upcoming dates with the remaining contestants, Joan had to decide whom she would choose as her top two and whom she would send home. However, Pascal made her job easier by self-eliminating before the rose ceremony.
The salon owner expressed his doubts to Joan, stating that he didn't love her and couldn't find the spark in their relationship that he was seeking. He said to Joan:
"I’m having a very difficult time, because I know what love is. I’ve experienced it. You’ve experienced it. And I care about you as a friend, but I’m not in love... We laugh, we seem like we connect, but I need that spark, and I just don’t have it. I’m sorry. I thought I could move forward, and I’m just — I’m not ready.”
The Golden Bachelorette - Pascal couldn't get over his past and ultimately ended things with Joan
Before his fantasy suite date with Joan, Pascal sat down with host Jesse Palmer to open up about his past relationship and the lingering doubts it created about his own happiness.
He admitted that, given his unresolved issues, he wasn’t sure he’d be ready for Joan by the time of their possible engagement. While talking about his past, he added:
"I definitely want to move on, but I’m having a tough time. I’m at the stage where I’m trying to rebuild. From the outside, I look all fun and funny all the time… but I’m hurting. It’s hard to open up. I come from a f**ked up background, you know? My childhood has been very difficult…"
The Golden Bachelorette contestant then met with Joan for their fantasy suite date. The two watched a Tahitian welcoming ceremony before engaging in a traditional Tahitian bonding ceremony. The ceremony required the participants to be vulnerable about their past, present, and future.
While Joan was comfortable and open about her experience, Pascal felt uneasy as he wasn't ready to face his fears and let his walls down. The salon owner left the ceremony confused and said in his confessional:
"I thought we’d have something more casual... I wasn’t ready for that. I appreciate the thought behind it, and I did my very best to to show her who I am. But my wall is still up, and I’m guarded. I’m scared, and I’m not ready. I’m not ready for that. I’m not — I’m not ready."
During their dinner in The Golden Bachelorette episode 7, Pascal asked Joan why she had chosen to keep him by her side throughout the show. Joan shared that, while she wasn’t looking for a replacement for her late husband, Pascal reminded her of him in many ways and seemed to check “a million boxes” on her list.
However, Pascal had conflicting feelings and told Joan that, while he cared deeply for her and didn’t want to hurt her, he wasn’t in love with her. He admitted he couldn’t find the spark he had hoped for after his breakup with his previous partner.
The Golden Bachelorette replied:
“I don’t want a broken heart at the end of this. And if you’re not ready, it’s one thing. If you’re never going to be ready, that’s a different thing… It’s OK. I wish you were ready, but if you’re not, you’re not. And I can’t force that.”
Pascal apologized to Joan for any hurt he had caused and for making her feel that way. Although Joan assured him she was fine, Pascal sensed she was masking her pain behind her words.
They shared a heartfelt hug and said their goodbyes, with Pascal telling The Golden Bachelorette to take care of herself and that he was only a call away if she ever needed him.
The Golden Bachelorette episodes air every Wednesday on ABC.
