In the third week of The Golden Bachelorette, emotions ran high as Joan Vassos, the star of the show, faced a heartbreaking family health crisis. As she navigated difficult moments with her suitors, three men were sent home after the rose ceremony.
The rose ceremony saw three men leave The Golden Bachelorette. Charles K., a 62-year-old portfolio manager from Rancho Palos Verdes, California, was one of the men who left. Alongside him, Gregg, a 64-year-old retired university VP from Longboat Key, Florida, and Kim, a 69-year-old retired Navy captain from Seattle, Washington, also exited the show.
Joan also received shocking news about her mother, which added to the drama of the evening. The Golden Bachelorette, now in its third week, follows Joan’s journey to find love while also juggling personal challenges. As she continued to connect with her suitors, tensions rose, and the group grew smaller after a heartfelt rose ceremony. Here's what happened in the last episode.
Joan’s emotional journey in The Golden Bachelorette: Why was she upset?
This episode of The Golden Bachelorette was particularly tough for Joan. The 61-year-old learned her beloved 92-year-old mother, Mary, was sick.
“She has something respiratory going on and they want my help to figure it out,” Joan revealed.
Her role as her family’s caregiver weighed heavily on her, as she expressed feelings of guilt for not being there to help. Joan shared her feelings by stating,
“It’s ultimately my responsibility to take care of my mom, and I feel guilty that I’m not there to help.”
Throughout the episode, Joan opened up about her emotional struggles, reflecting on her late husband and her responsibilities toward her family. She also received comfort from the remaining men, especially Chock, who shared that his mother was battling stage 4 cancer.
Joan’s emotional vulnerability drew the men closer, with one of them, Chock, telling her, “If you want to talk about anything, I’m there.” Joan noted that Chock reminded her of her late husband, which made their connection even stronger.
Group dates, personal stories, and more
This week’s episode of The Golden Bachelorette featured a competitive group date, where Joan’s suitors participated in a kickball game. Coached by football legends Eric Dickerson and Andre Reed, the men gave their all, despite their age and physical limitations. Charles L., a widower, even scored for his team, leading to a victory and an after-party with Joan.
At the mansion, personal stories flowed, with Charles L. confiding in Joan about his wife’s death and seeking answers from fellow contestant Guy, an ER doctor. Offering him the closure he needed, Guy advised Charles, stating:
“You need to stop dwelling on why, why, why,”
Pascal, the lucky recipient of the first one-on-one date, charmed Joan on a trip to Las Vegas. From glittery outfits to a serenade by Wayne Newton. Joan gave Pascal the one-on-one date rose, feeling optimistic about their connection.
Pascal shared personal stories from his upbringing in France, where he grew up in poverty and moved to the U.S. to build a better life.
Looking ahead to The Golden Bachelorette
In the last episode, Joan received advice from The Golden Bachelor star himself, Gerry Turner, who reassured her to “take a breath and be yourself.” With strong connections forming, Joan’s journey to find love is just getting started.
In Week 3, roses went to Pascal, Jonathan, Gil, Guy, Dan, Gary, Jordan, Chock, Charles L., Keith, and Mark. With only 11 men remaining, the path to true love is narrowing for Joan.
